Victoria Fires Municipal Auditor General

Victoria, B.C. – The provincial government has fired municipal auditor general Basia Ruta.
In a news release issued this morning, Ruta’s refusal to participate in a government review created an “intolerable situation,” said Community Development Minister Coralee Oakes.
Ruta had completed just three local government audits during the two years the office had been in place.
She was earning $200,000 per year but no word yet on what a possible severance package may look like.
Oakes has already recommended a search for “a qualified replacement.”

$200,000 a year pick me pick me pick me!!!!!
Yes, ski51, but are you willing to do as you are told with a, “Yes, ma’am, Yes, ma’am, three bags full, ma’am?”
Nice gig! 200 grand a year to oversee 1 audit per year.
I think the original idea was good, however like most Liberal idea’s it had a short shelf life, and turned brown very quickly.
ammonra – depends on the severance package – absolutely !!!!
But that’s the problem, how can you have an independent auditor who can be fired at the pleasure of her majesty’s loyal minister. I suspect in this case, the firing was probably a good idea, but for the next person to take the job – be aware. You know, they have these things called public accounting firms, and for $350,000.00, they will comb through your city business like there’s no tomorrow and come up with all sorts of great ideas.
All kidding aside, 1 audit per year, and she’s only part of the cost, she had a staff that’s on payroll too, this is probably a time when KPMG would have been cost effective.
Shouldn’t Clark be fired for the same reason ?
Victoria is number two on the most dangerous cities in canada . Victoria should also be the kleptocracy capital . Stole the bcr right from under our noses and got away with it . While pg seems to be killing each other and exporting criminals .
As I have said before- Yes we deffinitely have the fox guarding the chicken house in this province.
We do not know why she apparently refused to participate in a review (of her achievements) and instead took the risk of getting fired.
The story does not give any explanation. Firing a government employee without proper cause can have serious financial consequences. That is a well known fact. It isn’t done lightly.
