Gridlock at Highway 16 & Domano – Update
Monday, March 23, 2015 @ 3:08 PM
Prince George, B.C. – Motorists should avoid Highway 16 and Domano Boulevard.
This as an excavator fell off the trailer it was being carried on, causing traffic gridlock in the area.
Police say it happened at around 2:30 this afternoon and expect traffic to be backed up through the rush hour.
There were no injuries though there was a minor fuel spill.
That spill has since been contained.

Took me 20 min to get through when I was travelling west. I just missed the accident.
What got me was while I was slowly moving closer to the intersection there was nobody out flagging the traffic – at least 6 RCMP vehicles and 2 Fire trucks in attendance. Just shaking my head on that one.
A dump truck was pulling the excavator on a low bed.
The appropriate lanes were blocked off by emergency vehicles, so as long as the motorists weren’t rubber-necking too much, and paying attention to their own traffic lights, things were flowing pretty well. Might be different when the rush half-hour happens though.
Pretty scary that someone forgot how to or just didn’t secure the load properly. Someone could very well have been killed by that kind of incompetence.
Did that low bed look like it was up side down?
metalman.
Metalman, yes it was upside down.
I think he was turning from Domano onto the highway and the trailer clipped the turn lane curb… maybe the excavator slid over the side a bit, and then the trailer looks to have just flipped over upside down.
Thanks Eagleone, glad to know my eyes were not deceiving me;)
