Strike Won’t Affect Semester Dates
Prince George, B.C. – UNBC’s semester will not be extended to make up for days lost due to this month’s Faculty Strike.
UNBC’s Senate made their ruling today deciding that the original semester dates will be followed this semester.
The last day of classes will be Friday April 17, with the exam period running from Monday, April 20 to Thursday, April 30.
However external relations vice-president Rob Van Adrichem says a decision has not yet been made regarding compensation for students.
He says that the University is continuing to have discussions on this topic with the Ministry of Advanced Education.
The school encourages concerned students to speak with their instructor or the Office of the Registrar.
The Faculty Association strike started March 5 and lasted nearly two weeks.
UNBC moved to have it suspended for talks with a mediator March 18 by filing an application with the Labour Relations Board.
The central sticking point has revolved around wages.
