Prince George, B.C. – The arrival of spring brings a corresponding gradual opening up of outdoor civic facilities to the public.

The track at Masich Place Stadium is now open for the year, with access available from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Sunday.  You should note, however, that the grass infield is closed to the public and will remain that way until further notice.

Meantime, members of Prince George city council will decide at their meeting Monday night whether to approve an application for $3.5 million from a $28 million fund created by the Union of B.C. Municipalities to provide money for projects outside of the lower mainland region.  The UBCM fund is derived from the federal gas tax.

The $3.5 million would go toward a host of renovations at the rapidly-deteriorating stadium, including a synthetic infield, soccer and football field, removing berms outside the track and installing chain link fencing, among other items.

The City has already set aside half a million dollars to resurface the aging track.

maybe time for a small user fee for those using it to help keep it in better condition so this doesn’t happen????????

Thanks to the core review all the kid’s programs in PG had their field rates increase a hundredfold. Yeah, users of Masich place should be paying for their usage as well.

BC Place is replacing their perfectly good turf for the upcoming women’s World Cup. They have not decided what they are doing with the old turf yet. Perhaps they could be convinced to donate it for Masich Place!

The City did start to charge user groups last year; all the private boot camps just went elsewhere and the usage plummeted.

Why remove the berms? They provide some privacy from the highway, probably some safety aspect as well for the traffic with looki-Lou’s. They have nice just now maturing shade tree… And they want to clear cut the area and put in a wire fence?

If they weren’t paying for the usage having them leave is not an issue.
