Don’t Forget To Practice Safe Digging

Sunday, April 5, 2015 @ 3:49 AM

Prince George, BC – With thoughts turning to landscaping and other outside reno projects, as the grass turns green, the BC Safety Authority is reminding residents to call before they dig.

April is ‘Safe Digging Month’ – meant to remind homeowners and contractors to be safe and think ahead, before that first effort to break ground.

“Gas lines, electrical wires and a network of buried service facilities are at risk of being damaged during any type of excavaction,”says Wayne Lock, the BCSA’s Gas Safety Manager.

“Planning is key.  All excavators, gardeners, and homeowners doing yard renovations should contact BC One Call before they dig.”

Residents can call BC One Call at 1-800-474-6886 or *6886 from a cell phone (or go online to www.bconecall.bc.ca) – it is a free service that provides the location of underground lines.

“Hitting an underground electrical or gas line is both dangerous and expensive,” says Lock.  “It only takes one phone call or one click online to save time, money, and potentially lives.”
