Prince George, B.C. – Prince George RCMP are investigating a motor vehicle accident in the VLA area this afternoon.

At approximately 2:30 pm an SUV came down Upland Street but failed to turn at the bend at the bottom of the hill where the road becomes Milburn Avenue.

CRASH2

The vehicle went straight across a park area, over the embankment at Strathcona Avenue , hit and took down a light standard and came to rest in the parking lot of the First Litre Pub after slightly brushing the back end of a pick-up truck.

CRASH3

It is not known how many people were in the SUV, whether anyone was hurt or what caused the vehicle to leave the road and drive across the field.  Police are trying to determine what occurred.

Obvious cause is that the city has not put thermo plastic lane markers through the grass portion of the roadway:P

Good one Sparrow, haha!

Lucky it wasn’t a weekday. The CDC parking lot would have been full. I assume it was a medical issue that started it all. I hope no one was injured.

The CDC parking lot is right in front of the 1st liter pub? When I used to take my kids there the parking lot was not on the same street as the 1st liter and actually quite a distance away.

Could of been a medical issue to cause the driver to loose this much control. That is quite a distance to travel thru the park without stopping.

Or it could’ve been a joy ride. The mud in the field would have plugged up any summer tires negating steer control once one hits the pavement… jumping up that embankment into the CDC parking lot may have given just enough lift that the driver had no option but to hit the pole because that was the trajectory of the vehicle… once through the pole the brakes came on for the earliest possible stop.

The brakes look not to have been applied on the grass (if anything gas full on from halfway up the grass), because it would have left a braking mark, then looks to me the vehicle hit the pole while airborne from jumping the curb as there are no tire marks on the grass in the vicinity of the pole.

Some thermo-plastic road markings on that corner probably wouldn’t hurt either….

gitterdun: don’t know why you think it was a medical issue; it says in the story that the police don’t know how many were in the suv – that tells me that they all ran away, which leads me to believe it was either a stolen vehicle or driver was drunk or on drugs. hope they figure this out soon – lucky no-one was killed.

billyinpg: i have lived here for 7 years now and the cdc has always been in front of the first litre (actually it is right across the street)

From 2 Tracks to 4 Tracks did he backup to take run at the Curb ?

4 tracks indicate a sideways sliding action of the vehicle. The driver was losing control.

Outwest, where the 2 tracks become 4 is where the driver lost control of the vehicle.
