Police Suspect Fatal Crash Alcohol Related
Smithers, B.C. – One person is dead following a two vehicle collision on the Babine Lake Road Saturday night.
Police say it happened at around 9 pm in a remote area approximately 25 km from Smithers.
First responders arrived to find the driver of one vehicle deceased while the driver of the second vehicle was arrested and is under investigation for impaired driving causing death.
The accused was treated at hospital then transferred back to police to continue their investigation.
The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.
The crash happened just hours after another fatal crash involving a 47 year old Smithers man in Morricetown.
That collision resulted in Highway 16 being down to single lane, alternating traffic for approximately 11 hrs.
The Easter Long Weekend was a deadly one in northern B.C. as two 18 year old Mackenzie men were killed in a collision on Highway 97 Friday, and a 46 year old woman in Fort St. John was killed in a hit and run crash Sunday night.
