Prince George, BC – While many of the board members of the Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society will be ‘recycled’ at today’s annual general meeting, the local group is open to anyone interested in getting involved in the local group’s efforts.

REAPS Executive Director, Terri McClymont, says the society’s goal over the past 25 years in Prince George has been to empower people and help them realize even small changes in attitude are cumulative when looking at the health of the environment.

“Whether it’s composting or recycling, or looking to buy more local food, or taking your water bottle with you,” says McClymont.  “We’re just empowering people to take a more environmental approach to their everyday lives, whether it’s business, play or at school.”

McClymont says REAPS works with a number of like-minded groups in the community and does presentations throughout the entire Regional District of Fraser Fort George.  The team offers 38 school presentations and the garden at the society’s Gorse Street location is open to all daycares and day camps in the city.

The Executive Director says with the exception of recently-elected City Councillor, Jillian Merrick, the existing board is staying on, but she emphasizes anyone who wants to be involved will be enthusiastically welcomed.

“We still have a lot of  keeners that are diehards and they keep coming back year after year, which is awesome.”  But she adds, “Every little bit of time is encouraged.  Right now, it’s me during the winter months, so the more hands the merrier.”

Today’s AGM begins at 10am at Artspace, above Books & Co on 3rd Avenue.  For more information on the society, click here.
