LNG Talk at UNBC Tonight
Prince George, B.C. – B.C.’s proposed liquefied natural gas industry (LNG) will be the focus of a lecture tonight at UNBC’s Canfor Theatre.
Geoscientist and independent energy policy analyst David Hughes has entitled his talk “BC LNG and the Shale Revolution: Myths and Realities.”
He says his analysis looks at the logistics of actually developing the industry at different scales, from 1 to 5 LNG terminals.
Hughes says he’ll discuss “what some of the environmental impacts would be” of building those plants but more importantly will “look at the whole issue of energy security in Canada.”
He notes two of the more obvious impacts will be on water and surface land use.
“There’s no free lunch with any source of energy whether it’s windmills, tar sands or fracked gas.”
Hughes also questions what the benefits of LNG would be.
“You look at the tax breaks that are being offered up by the government and the people that own the resource, the people of B.C., will really be the last ones to get paid.”
The lecture starts at 7:30 pm.

Sounds like a talk that Shirley Bond and Mike Morris should be attending but definitely wont be…
