Prince George, B.C. – The Northwest Invasive Plant Council has received $297,500 to fight invasive plants.
The funds come courtesy of the provincial government and is one of 29 grants, totalling $1,702,000, that are being distributed province-wide.
The money will be used to help raise awareness around invasive plants, surveying invasive plant populations and to treat high-priority sites to control the spread of these plants.
An invasive plant is a non-native plant that causes harm to humans and the environment.
The nearly 300,000 grant is in addition to the $735,000 already allocated by the government for invasive plant control management in 2015-16.
