Windstorm Causes Outages
Prince George, B.C. – Today’s windstorm in Prince George has left over 900 BC Hydro customers in the dark.
Spokesperson Bob Gammer says the outages are affecting areas in all directions around the city and says it’s too soon to estimate when the lights will come back on.
“It all depends on the severity of the wind and what exactly happens,” he says. “Just continue to check the BC Hydro website as it will be updated through the afternoon.”
Gammer says those affected by the outage can use their mobile phone apps by looking up bchydro.com/outages.
He adds it’s best not to assume that somebody has phoned in an outage and suggests calling 1-888-769-3766 if you’re unsure.
According to Environment Canada, today’s winds are gusting upwards of 60 km/h and are expected to continue into this evening.

My meter will call for me, won’t it?
We had a windstorm?
Slinky… smart meters are a joke.. had a power outage at my house recently.. I called bc hydro.. the lady asked me if my neighbours had lost power as well.. I said I wasnt sure..she told me to check with the neighbours and get back to her.. Maybe I got a special ed meter..
When the push from hydro was on for the installation of the smart meters one of the features they hailed was that they would now know when we lost our power, since the advent of the smart meter I have never phoned the power company to advise of loss of power because of this, sounds like they sold us a bullshit story, they had better advise their customers immediately of this misleading feature, or face a possible law suit as this feature is not a working function of their smart meter.
The whole point of the “smart meter” is to charge different rates for different times of the day.
no slinky it won’t…. they are not activated yet, or so Hydro says….
but did you know hydro can shut off your power remotely with the new meters….
“OOOOPS POWER OUTAGE” claims Hydro
Yes bcracer. i was a holdout until the last week when they brought in the fee for reading system. I was not a holdout because of “radiation” or any kooky stuff, I just didn’t want the per hour billing which will follow in these meter’s wake. I suggested I could call in my reading but they wanted 35 bucks a month to read a meter even though the Terasen guy comes to my driveway every month.
I has been a looooong time since they instituted these meters but they haven’t turned them “on” yet?
The transmitter part is turned as I have not seen power meter reader person for about 1.5 years now, see the gas reader all the time.
did you know slinky that they are still sending meter readers around to read everyone’s meters…so you are getting charged for something they are doing anyways…. just in case you didn’t know. and they will be reading meters until they get all the meters on line… and who knows when that might be…..
I live in an apartment , they just changed my meter without my consent or even telling me they were gong to do it…and as a result they ruined my computer due to the power surge, and according to them it was my fault for having my computer on…go figure….
( Revised) The power meter transmitter must be turned on as I have not seen a power meter reader person for about 1.5 years now at our place. I see the gas meter reader all the time.
I am sure the reader is there at some point in time furtree as far as I have heard and read the the meters are still dumb.
