Good morning PG. Hoping CNC board finds funding for the dental programs, also counseling.
The little stick on the left side of the steering column activates the turn signals as well as some other options, signal lights should be used to indicate your intentions before making a lane change or turning a corner not while you are making the turn. Did you know when you turn your head lights on that your taillights come on too? Might be an idea to use that feature during dusk and dawn and in inclimate weather.
“Global debt has grown by $57 trillion to reach $199 trillion in the seven years following the financial crisis – a 40.1% rise, according to a new report. All major economies are now recording higher levels of borrowing relative to gross domestic product (GDP) than they did in 2007.
Total debt as a share of GDP stood at 286% in the second quarter of 2014 compared with 269% in the fourth quarter of 2007.”

Help me out here. When one is merging onto the highway is the traffic supposed to slow down to match the merger speed to let them in. And when one is entering a highway ,say highway 97, from ,say Pine Center Mall, that has a yield sign is that person supposed to stop and enter when the way is clear or merge and then yield when making a right turn onto highway 16 ,say going to Costco. Been driving for over 40 years and I think I had it right but maybe I don’t.????????
road signs are only a suggestion.
happy rainy friday. getting free lawn watering ,;: oops forgot they won’t us to pay a tax on that?

I sure hope that sarcasm… Difficult to discern this early in the morning!
“Global debt has grown by $57 trillion to reach $199 trillion in the seven years following the financial crisis….. All major economies are now recording higher levels of borrowing relative to gross domestic product (GDP) than they did in 2007.”
To whom do we owe this debt? How can there be a global debt? Are the Gov’ts getting cash from payday loan companies, or some guy named Luigi who sits in the dark corner at the back or the bar?
BC MOT regulations current to April 15, 2015
Yield signs
173 (1) Except as provided in section 175, if 2 vehicles approach or enter an intersection from different highways at approximately the same time and there are no yield signs, the driver of a vehicle must yield the right of way to the vehicle that is on the right of the vehicle that he or she is driving.
(2) Except as provided in section 175, if 2 vehicles approach or enter an intersection from different highways at approximately the same time and there is a yield sign, the driver of a vehicle facing the sign must yield the right of way to all other traffic.
BC MOT does not have a merge regulation
Another peeve is people not yielding while turning right at an intersection
Red light
129 (1) Subject to subsection (2), when a red light alone is exhibited at an intersection by a traffic control signal, the driver of a vehicle approaching the intersection and facing the red light must cause it to stop before entering the marked crosswalk on the near side of the intersection, or if there is no marked crosswalk, before entering the intersection, and subject to the provisions of subsection (3), must not cause the vehicle to proceed until a traffic control signal instructs the driver that he or she is permitted to do so.
(3) Despite subsection (1), and except when a right turn permitted by this subsection is prohibited by a sign at an intersection, the driver of a vehicle facing the red light, and which in obedience to it is stopped as closely as practicable to a marked crosswalk on the near side of the intersection, or if there is no marked crosswalk, as closely as practicable to the intersection, may cause the vehicle to make a right turn, but the driver must yield the right of way to all pedestrians and vehicles lawfully proceeding as directed by the signal at the intersection.
ie. you have to STOP and yield to all left turning traffic at the intersection
Our other contentious issue which is under review currently:
Driver on right
150 (1) The driver of a vehicle must confine the course of the vehicle to the right hand half of the roadway if the roadway is of sufficient width and it is practicable to do so, except
(a) when overtaking and passing a vehicle proceeding in the same direction,
(b) when the right hand half of the roadway is closed to traffic while under construction or repair,
(c) on a highway designated and marked by signs for one way traffic,
(d) if necessary when operating snow removing equipment, or
(e) if
(i) the movement of a vehicle, or combination of vehicles, is permitted by and is done in conformity with the terms of the oversize permit issued under the Commercial Transport Act, and
(ii) the width of a vehicle, or combination of vehicles, or the width of a load on the vehicle makes the operation of the vehicle or combination of vehicles on the right hand half of the roadway unsafe.
(2) The driver of a vehicle proceeding at less than normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing must drive the vehicle in the right hand lane then available for traffic, or as closely as practicable to the right hand curb or edge of the roadway, except when overtaking and passing a vehicle proceeding in the same direction, or when preparing for a left hand turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway.
(3) The driver of a vehicle passing around a rotary traffic island must drive the vehicle to the right of the island.
NOTE: “The driver of a vehicle proceeding at less than normal speed of traffic” – not – “proceeding less than speed limit”
1. The right hand land must be available for traffic. This is not always the case. Especially on the freeway.
2. Except when overtaking and passing a vehicle proceeding in the same direction. (This happens all the time)
3. Or when preparing for a left hand turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway.
So I would suggest that those who are exceeding the speed limit and in a big hurry get out of the left hand lane as soon as they complete one of the above functions. Lets keep in mind that the road is to move traffic, not to facilitate speeding and dangerous drivers. Drivers weaving in and out of traffic to gain a few car lengths at best could be described as inconsiderate.
If we all observed the rules covering driving in the left hand lane, it would be empty most of the time. The police consider **less than normal speed of traffic** to be approx. 10k over the speed limit. Anything over that and you can be subject to a fine. So while you may be in excess of the speed limit, to much excess can cost you money.
ICBC Learn to Drive booklet:
Yield
A yield sign means that you must let the traffic on the through
road have the right of way. You may enter the intersection without
stopping if there are no pedestrians, cyclists or vehicles on the
through road. But you must slow down (and stop if necessary) and
wait for a safe gap if there is traffic on the through road.
(intersections with right turn lanes and yield signs) Some intersections have special yield lanes for vehicles turning right. To make a right turn, move into this lane and wait until there is a break in the traffic to complete your turn.
Merge
Highway or freeway entrances and exits
These lanes are designed to help you safely enter and exit the
freeway.
Entrance:
The entrance consists of an entrance ramp, an acceleration lane
and a merging area.
While you’re on the entrance ramp, scan the freeway traffic
for a safe gap.
The acceleration lane is divided from the rest of the roadway
by a solid white line. Use this lane to match your speed to the
speed of traffic on the freeway.
The merging area is divided from the freeway by a broken
white line. Use this area to find a safe gap to merge with
freeway traffic
Which lane should you use?
Choose the lane that gives you the best vision and allows you
to go where you want to go. On a multilane highway, you
should travel in one of the right hand lanes. This is especially
important if you are driving more slowly than other vehicles or
if signs direct you to keep out of the left lane.
Just because you are driving at the speed limit does not mean
you should continually drive in the left lane. This may cause
other drivers to try to pass on the right, which may not be as
safe as passing on the left.
PS. If you are passing every car in the right lane, then you are speeding, because those cars in the left lane would be considered driving at the normal speed of traffic, regardless of whether they are travelling at the posted limit or 10k over the limit.
“Except as provided in section 175, if 2 vehicles approach or enter an intersection from different highways at approximately the same time and there are no yield signs, the driver of a vehicle must yield the right of way to the vehicle that is on the right of the vehicle that he or she is driving.”
This applies to intersections which are marked with stop signs in all four directions. If two vehicles make a stop at approximately the same time the driver of a vehicle must allow the driver of the vehicle which is to the right to proceed first. From personal experience I can state that most drivers are unaware of this rule, therefore it is wise to not ever expect anybody to follow it. Not surprising because even the meaning of Stop signs is more often than not thought to mean something comletely different.
In a city that actually has traffic (e.g. not Prince George), people generally work together when merging to ensure that traffic flows smoothly.
Examples:
– If you are driving on the freeway and you see a pile of vehicles in the merge lane trying to enter traffic, move over and clear the lane so they can enter.
– If you are driving on the freeway and you see a vehicle in the merge lane trying to enter traffic and you can’t change lanes to help accommodate them, show some courtesy and allow them space to enter if they need it. If you have to slow down slightly to let them in, just do it. Don’t be the idiot that feels like everyone should have to enter behind them.
– If you are in the merge lane and entering traffic, don’t be scared to use your gas pedal so that you can match or exceed the speed of the traffic you are trying to enter. This will make it easier for you to enter and/or to be accommodated by other drivers if you need it. Don’t be the idiot who tries to enter traffic while going 50 KM/H slower or faster than what the others are doing.
Oh and if you see a yield sign, that means you yield, not merge.
Does this help? LOL.
Yup. Tells me that you have experience driving with idiot British Columbia drivers NMG. Go Sens !
Why is this the weekly traffic whining blog? It is like road rage repressed. “…grrr!! Wait until Friday-Free For-All!!! I am gonna name and shame!!”
What happens if you guys get cut off on a Saturday morning? Do you stay angry all week?
ooops. PS should have read.
If you are passing every car in the right lane then you are speeding because those cars in the right lane would be considered as driving at the normal speed of traffic, regardless whether they are travelling at the posted speed limit or 10k over the limit.
We have all experienced times when we were in the right lane travelling 20k over the posted limit and are still being passed on the left.
We all know that those people who pass on the left regardless of the speed of traffic in the right lane, are inconsiderate drivers, who could care less about the rules of the road, and just want to put the peddle to the metal. They use the left lane rules to justify their actions, however the fact of the matter is they are usually only speeding and are good examples of poor drivers.
Once marijuana is legalized will marijuana smokers be subject to the same rules and regulations that apply to normal smokers??.
If marijuana is legal and used for medicinal purposes and prescribed by a doctor would a patient be allowed to smoke marijuana in his hospital bed, or inside the hospital??
What are the effects of second hand marijuana smoke?? Will bystanders be effected by the concentrated smoke, and thus become impaired and subject to fines and roadside suspensions even if they don’t smoke this s..t.??
Will major tobacco companies get into the production of marijuana and take over the market, thus putting everyone else out of business, make millions of dollars, and help us become a nation of pot heads???
So many questions, so few answers.
What I’d like to know is do you get the same medicinal benefits of pot if it is consumed in pill for rather than smoking it? I’ve got no issues with those folks who partake but I do find the odour to be quite unpleasant.
It depends on the desired effect.
Some of the results could be achieved by consuming the raw form. Most of the desired effects can only happen when the product is burned into the smoke causing a thermal chemical reaction that producing new molecular compounds.
So it depends.
One thing I was reminded of when I had lunch with a crown council is the fact that the reason pot was originally made illegal was at the behest of the population of the time. Granted, it was and is a misogynistic, racist and puritanical choice, but that was what it was then. Are we the citizens of Canada still with those same attitudes wherein a select population determines the behaviours of all?
Palopu: PS. If you are passing every car in the right lane, then you are speeding, because those cars in the left lane would be considered driving at the normal speed of traffic, regardless of whether they are travelling at the posted limit or 10k over the limit.
What if they are all driving 10 under and you are only doing 5 under the posted limit are you still sleeping?
If speeding is against traffic law how can anyone ever drive in the left lane?
Mercenary, if you smoke it you get one type of high, it’s different if you ingest it.. And yes some of the stuff out there stinks even before its smoked.. It’s like smokers.. They think they have “aired” out but to us non smokers they still stink.
Palopu as of right now pot is easier for kids to get than alcohol and yet the number of people smoking pot has not increased.. So your concern about us all becoming potheads seems very distant. As for your second hand pot concern, I have attended numerous get togetherness with pot smokers and have taken in second hand smoke without ever feeling anything.
When it becomes legal will canada be happier ? Will the violent drunks stop drinking and take up this happy drug? Will medical costs drop as less drinking? Sure is easy to have a list when it’s just full of ” will” Will we finally live on the moon so we can grow pot there.. Will the children really be the future ;)
Indeed Digitus Impudicus, I’d love to see them pull out the win tonight.
Go Sens!!!!!!
PVal speaking of the future . Did you load up your tfsa to the new 10k level ? And January is only 8 months away.
while not my usual style, i will post this one in the way i do just the same. please, no one take offense, rather, please see the humour :)
it is a beautiful, slightly chilly day here in kelowna. i am very much looking forward to the game tonight, the portland winterhawks are in town.
we/folks in prince george should consider and look into keeping hockey season alive through april. myself, i feel the quality gets better in april and may.
go rockets!!!
Ataloss… I have my money exactly where it needs to be :)
With all the medicinal marihuana grow ops that are popping up in B.C., there must be a huge percentage of the population the are experiencing severe pain.
Ampm, do a search for all the medical symptoms pot can help with.. Without any of the horrible side effects that most prescription drugs have.. Suicidal thoughts, stroke, etc.. Hell of a gamble.. Or smoke a joint and feel better, side effect, munchies and love of all movies of will Farrell…lol
If Big Tobacco got into the weed biz, how would they brand it?
Cravin’ eh?
Marl Bro
Weeder Jackson
Playas
Brother gecko.. I think it would be more like a frequent flyer point system for chocolate bars and chips :-)
George stroumboulopoulus shouldn’t be doing NHL, CBC made a huge mistake putting him in the hockey spotlight. He should go back to interviewing on very late night tv. As soon as he speaks about hockey I hit mute.
He doesnt know hockey well enough to hold that job. You are correct.
They’re still playing hockey?
Canadian producers worried softwood lumber deal will expire in October

“Global debt has grown by $57 trillion to reach $199 trillion in the seven years following the financial crisis….. All major economies are now recording higher levels of borrowing relative to gross domestic product (GDP) than they did in 2007.”
Brother Gecko:-“To whom do we owe this debt? How can there be a global debt? Are the Gov’ts getting cash from payday loan companies, or some guy named Luigi who sits in the dark corner at the back or the bar?”
——————————————————————————————
Most of the debt is owed to the banking system which created it, and currently have been allowed to claim ‘ownership’of it, as if it was THEIR property, (as well as anything that can be purchased with it). There can’t really be a global debt, at least one that could ever be ‘paid off’ in the same sense that one might pay off one’s own personal debts. Government’s don’t get cash from “payday loan companies”, nefarious organisations which actually have to HAVE the money they lend. Banks provide the government with its money, which they do NOT ‘HAVE’ beforehand, but create as needed, as the saying goes, “out of nothing”.
P Val, thank you, thank you, thank you!
I thought that I was the only person who would like to see George Snuffalopolus taken off of hockey broadcasts!
Can we get rid of Nick Kypreos at the same time? Ya he played the game… or rather, he didn’t play, he just slugged it out with any other goon he could find. This is the bench mark for being a hockey commentator? Being a Neanderthal on ice? PJ Stock isn’t much better, who was another undrafted 4th liner.
At least guys like Kelly Hrudey have a brain in their head.
While parked on the west side of George St. by the court house this afternoon I had the pleasure of observing a young person “shoot up” in a doorway entrance. This individual made no effort to conceal their activity…Is this a daily problem as I am rarely downtown??
