P.G. to Host Crime Stoppers Conference
Prince George, B.C. – For the first time in about 20 years, Prince George will host the 2015 B.C. Crime Stoppers conference.
President Jack Hooper says it will run April 30 – May 2 at the Coast Inn of the North and expects 75-80 people to take part.
He says the three day event will include guest speakers and an award dinner and silent auction May 2.
Hooper says the organization has been successful in helping fight crime in the area.
“Crime Stoppers Prince George has been tremendously successful, top 5 in B.C.,” he says. “In our 20 to 30 year existence we’ve taken $33 million worth of drugs off the streets and $3 million in property has been recovered. We’ve also received 11,000 tips, so we’re getting some bad guys off the street.”
Hooper says one of the reasons the P.G. branch wanted to host the conference this year was to raise awareness about the work they do.
“We just want people to call Crime Stoppers if they remember something. If you witness a crime obviously call 9-1-1,” he says. “But if you remember something after the fact and wish to remain anonymous call us.”
