UNBC Again Makes Greenest Employers List
Prince George, BC – For a fourth consecutive year the University of Northern B.C. has been named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers.
The distinction from the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project at Mediacorp Canada recognizes employers that lead the nation in creating a culture of environmental awareness in their organizations.
UNBC is one of six universities on the list and was selected for integrating sustainability programs and projects in its teaching, research, operations and community engagement; establishing a campus-wide composting program as well as an in-house recycling centre to collect batteries, used cellphones and electronic waste; maintaining a “Green University Planning Committee” composed of senior administrators, faculty members, students and campus groups; offering transit subsidies for students; managing a Green Fund dedicated to funding sustainability projects across the campus; and for operating a biomass gasification facility that uses sawmill wood residue to produce clean, renewable energy, thereby reducing demand for fossil fuel heating by 70%.
UNBC President Daniel Weeks says “being named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers demonstrates that our employees and students are taking on a leadership role and are passionate when it comes to sustainability at UNBC. To be one of only 60 institutions across the nation to be named to this noteworthy list is something of which we can all be very proud.”

They should list how many thousands of liters of diesel fuel are burned to truck in that wood waste.
