Prince George, B.C. – This morning’s windstorm has left over 6,000 BC Hydro customers across northern B.C. without power, including over 1,300 in Prince George and surrounding areas.

“We’ve seen outages in the Prince Rupert area moving through Terrace and Houston, Burns Lake, Vanderhoof, Fort St. James and now Prince George,” says spokesperson Bob Gammer.

“The storm is forcing trees into contact with our power lines. In some cases just tree branches.”

The hardest hit area near P.G. is just east of the City where over 800 customers are currently in the dark.

Gammer says it’s “tricky to predict” when power will be restored but says “probably within a few hours.”

According to Environment Canada, wind gusts have reached up to 80 km/hr.
