Prince George, B.C. – Residents and visitors to the city took advantage of the sunshine and warm temperatures Saturday to take in the Elks May Day Parade.

Following a one-year break last year the Elks returned with the 86th annual parade through the streets of downtown Prince George.  With Mayor Lyn Hall acting as honorary parade marshall, the parade got underway from 7th and Dominion led by the Community Pipe Band and members of Elks Lodge 122 and the Royal Purple.

There were floats representing the Native Friendship Centre, Rona, Canfor, Excel Transportation, The B.C. Forest Service, the Elder Citizens Recreation Association and the band Country Cousins, the Old Time Fiddlers, several representatives of the RCMP and the B.C. Corrections Service, vintage motorcycles and classic cars and the most definitely required clowns.

People strategically placed themselves and their kids along the route as the parade made its way to City Hall.  Organizers gave a big thanks to the businesses and volunteers who helped make it a success, and to the people who came out and enjoyed the return of the Elks May Day parade.

Nice to see the return of this parade. Hopefully next year it will be bigger and better.

Prince George needs more parades and other community minded fun things for the kids. Kids love parades, however if we don’t get off our butts and help, they will not have any.

Thanks to the Elks and all others who participated.
