Prince George, B.C. – A report of a fireram has shut down two Prince George schools this morning.

Prince George RCMP Corporal Craig Douglass says they received a report of a youth with a firearm in a wooded area near Kelly Road Secondary at 8:20am.

As a result, he says both Kelly Road and nearby Heather Park Elementary were locked down while officers searched the area.

Douglass says Mounties found a pellett gun near Kelly Road but no suspects were located.

Police remain in the area and the schools remain secured as a precaution.

“It is never acceptable to bring a weapon of any kind to school or in close proximity to school. Pellet guns and imitation guns are considered and treated as firearms if they appear to be firearms,” he says.
