Prince George, B.C. – A suspected fatal bear attack near Mackenzie is currently under investigation.
Sergeant Rory Smith with the Conservation Officers Service (COS) says the incident occurred yesterday morning at the 10.5 km mark of the Parsnip Forest Service Road.
“RCMP members arrived on scene and destroyed one wolf and a large male black bear,” he says. “That black bear itself was found near the body of a deceased male.”
He says the male had been camping in the area with a female companion.
Smith says the COS is working with the Coroners Service “to determine if this was in fact a black bear related incident. At this point it’s all about the evidence we collect at the scene.”
The victim’s name has not been released.

I’m a little surprised they don’t know what happened if the victim was with a companion who survived.
