Bobtail Lake Fire Prompts Evacuation Orders and Alerts
Prince George, B.C. – The Bobtail Lake fire near Vanderhoof has prompted further evacuation orders and alerts.
The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George (RDFFG) has issued an evacuation alert around Bednesti Lake, Berman Lake, and Dahl Lake Road. There is an estimated 122 properties in the evacuation alert area.
Residents in the alert area are asked to prepare themselves in the event that an evacuation is required and are asked to take the following precautions:
– gather important papers and move valuables to alternate locations
– make arrangements for pets to be moved to a safe location
– make arrangements for livestock for a safe alternative location in case an evacuation order is issued
– prepare a 72 hour personal emergency kit for you and your family; remember to include any necessary medications in your kit
This evacuation alert follows an evacuation order the RDFFG issued last night for the Norman Lake area
As a result a reception centre has been established at the Regional District office at 155 George Street in Prince George.
There are 130 properties in the area, the majority of which are seasonal properties. It is estimated there are less than 10 full time residents.
The 2,500 hectare blaze also prompted an evacuation order by the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako last night (see story here).
It also spurred an alert for the area south of Highway 16 from Sob Lake Road to the eastern boundary of the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako south to the end of Naltesby Lake including the areas of Blackwater Road, Bobtail Forest Service Road, Bobtail Connector Forest Service Road, Sob Lake Road, and the Cluculz Lake area.
