Regional District Urging Residents to Take Notice of Evacuation Alert
Prince George, B.C. – The Regional District of Fraser Fort George is urging residents to take notice of this morning’s evacuation alert issued for the Bednesti Lake, Berman Lake, and Dahl Lake Road areas.
It was prompted by a wildland interface fire in the area.
“This fire is volatile and is expected to grow quite quickly,” says manager of external relations Renee McClosky. “Residents within the alert area are strongly advised to take immediate action to prepare for the potential evacuation in the alert area.”
Residents are asked to take the following precautions:
– gather important papers and move valuables to alternate locations
– make arrangements for pets to be moved to a safe location
– make arrangements for livestock for a safe alternative location in case an evacuation order is issued
– prepare a 72 hour personal emergency kit for you and your family; remember to include any necessary medications in your kit
There are 130 properties in the area, the majority of which are seasonal properties. It is estimated there are less than 10 full time residents.
The cause of the Little Bobtail Lake fire, which had grown to 2,500 hectares last night, remains under investigation.
