Prince George, B.C.- Premier Christy Clark will be in Prince George tomorrow to get a first hand look at the Little Bobtail Lake fire.An advisory from her office says the Premier will  get an update from the incident command on the efforts to fight the blaze which has consumed  more than 13000 hectares.  She will also  take an aerial tour of the fire area.

The Premier is also expected to  call on all  residents of the province to “stay safe and be vigilant” in what is expected to be an  active fire season.

The fire that was first detected on May 9th has forced  80  people out of their homes.  Evacuation alerts remain in  place.

While no structures had been lost to the flames,  air tankers, helicopters and more than 170  ground crew members  are  trying to  clear a perimeter to stop the rapid  spread of what has been described an aggressive and unpredictable fire.

so how much of our taxpayers $$ is she going to spend to come get a helicopter tour of the sight when her being here won’t make a bit of difference to the whole situation??

Looking at the size of those clear cuts there doesn’t appear to be that many trees left to burn.

Clear cuts have a lot of burnable material.

Premier renew the contract with the huge mars water bomber. It did an excellent job for over 50 years.

Give her an axe and a shovel and we might actually get some work of her that’s worth something.

Unless she is flying up in a Mars Water-bomber she can stay home, and I voted for her.

She has to pretend she cares..its part of her job.. I am sure Bond will be there for any photo op as well. While she is here have Clark stay at Simon Fraser lodge for the weekend..so,she can see what these people get fed due to her cuts.

Will she be kissing babies and waving to the common folk?

I always thought 90% of the people on here used it as an NDP chat site. Now I’m convinced

If you are talking about my post contractor..why don’t you visit Simon Fraser lodge for a weekend.. The liberal cuts along with northern health incompetance has put our seniors in jail..but with lousy food and are treated worse than anyone in jail.. Can’t blame that on NDP.. They haven’t been in power forever..but keep using them as a comparison if you need to

there is structure loss… and she has to see it… then we can can get more help. this is serious, folks

Val; I think She should visit all the Senior Homes while she is here , we had to move our senior out of the Gateway Assisted living to full care , but our seniors mind is still good and she is mixed in with people with their minds gone. I was upset for days and still am I felt like we have moved our Mother into a Jail. Our senior is in total lock up. Nothern Health is moving People that are hard to place into seniors assisted living. I think Nothern Health needs to be looked into how much double book keeping is going on. You have no IDEA what it is like in these places untill your loved one is in one.

JUST put me out to pasture rather than one of those homes. SPEAKING of pastures maybe deep down ol KRUSTY is an avid moose huntress and is just getting a flyby of some soon to be primo moosey areas??? NA she will probably give all that quota away to the guides anyways.

I guess she has to be seen as trying to show she cares, but I say save the money and put it toward (wild) fire fighting resources. Her presence is not going to make any difference to anyone, and it is not likely she will gain any insight into best practices for fire management or anything.
Another waste of resources in the quest for photo-ops and good press.

metalman.

@contractor

“I always thought 90% of the people on here used it as an NDP chat site. Now I’m convinced”

I honestly say this with humour… Your comment is awesome, because I have always thought that 95% of the comments on this site were from ignorant uninformed right-wingers…

I guess it just goes to show how much one’s perspective influences what they view. Myself included.

Having Krusty make an appearance addressing this fire is going to do what ? convince us that the gov’t cares about the north ? tell us about the balanced budget , a little more spent on having fire fighting resources ready to go with the dry conditions this spring would of helped .

The main problem with our society is zero respect for anyone or anything. It shows both on the fire being manmade possibly someone thinking who gives a rats behind, and most of the commenters on this article as well. Rodney Dangerfield said it best, “I don’t get no respect, no respect at all”

Mars is a shock and awe public relations tool.

Bang on just my opinion, bang on!

No investigation was done by our govt into the death of the blind native girl so why are they so interested in this fire?

slinky I think respect is earned , the gov’t could place a bobblehead with a voice recording as premier and it might earn more respect . fire does earn my respect and agree people should be responsible for their actions . it doesn’t make an excuse for not being properly prepared to fight it . I’m sure most realize how serious this fire is and hope that everyone involved can stay safe . some strong SW winds and it could blow right through PG .

Speaking of Seniors care, my brother and I assisted our Dad in escaping from a senior care facility here, took them three days to discover he was missing, and a frantic phone call on the third day from them. It was funny afterwards but not at the time. Doubt they’ve changed.

I’m quite pleased that the Premier is viewing the fire. No doubt she will understand the impact of not hitting this fire harder with more resources when it started.
