Saturday, May 16, 2015 @ 1:10 PM

Williams Lake, B.C. – Fire crews are battling five new fires in the Cariboo.

The Wildfire Management Branch says they were all sparked by lightning strikes last night with the largest burning four hectares west of Anahim Lake.

Fire information officer Emily Epp says “a three person initial attack crew is on site and suppressing the fire with the support of airtankers and a helicopter.”

Crews are also busy fighting three small fires in the Big Bar area and one small fire southwest of Quesnel.

She adds they’re expecting “a downturn in the weather throughout the Cariboo-Chilcotin with an increase in thunderstorm activity, showers and cooler temperatures.”
