Quesnel, B.C. – The Pelican Lake fire is now 50% contained.

Located 10 km east of Pelican Lake and 80 km northwest of Quesnel, it’s shrunk from 250 hectares to 164 hectares in size.

The Wildfire Management Branch attributes the progress “to the hard work and efforts from ground crews, heavy equipment operators and air support personnel.”

They say they are expecting high winds on the fire site today but note “we are situating ourselves to respond effectively.”

The lightning caused fire is currently being fought by 60 firefighters, four helicopters, five pieces of heavy equipment and a specialized Incident Management Team.
