Prince George, B.C. – With the dog days of summer right around the corner, the timing could not have been more appropriate.
This as the Prince George RCMP Victim Services’ Crisis Response and Therapy Dog Team hosted a special meet and greet at the detachment on Victoria Street today to mark National Therapy Animal Day.
“It’s a great opportunity to let the public meet the dogs and have a good time with the kids,” said Victim Services’ Coordinator Krista Levar.
She added the detachment has three dogs that work with the program and provide comfort to people whenever they’re in a stressful situation.
“So for instance if a person had to give a statement to an officer that could be really intimidating, particularly if you’re a little person,” said Levar. “So Max (a yellow lab) could meet the child before hand and provide just a comforting transition into that scary interview.”
The event was anything but “ruff” for those in attendance – which included games, treats, prizes, and some fun tricks performed by the resident pups.
In fact in this reporters’ opinion, a “paw-some” experience was had by all.

I’ve seen too many victims, witnesses too afraid to talk about their ordeal. I have no doubt this will assist them immensely. A number of people are acquitted of crimes due to fear. This is a great tool, Kudos to Victim Services for providing this.
