Man Killed in Workplace Accident Near Prince George

Prince George, B.C. – An investigation is underway into a fatal work-related accident which occurred in the Prince George area this weekend.

Regional Coroner Donita Kuzma confirms to 250 News that one death has been reported to the B.C. Corner’s Service, that an unidentified male died of injuries suffered in the accident on Saturday.

The man was driving a rig that was delivering a piece of heavy equipment in the West Lake area.  He turned onto West Lake Road and then onto a forest service road which is just beyond the entrance to West Lake Provincial Park.

During that portion of his drive the man encountered some trees which had come down across the road.  Kuzma says the man got out to move the trees and suffered unspecified injuries as he was in the process of doing that.  The man was alive as he was rushed to University Hospital of Northern B.C. however Kuzma says that despite aggressive resuscitation efforts there, he succumbed to his injuries.

WorkSafe BC was called following the accident and attended the scene.  Worksafe BC and the Corner’s Service are investigating the fatality.  Kuzma says the B.C. Coroner’s office and the RCMP are expected to release further information tomorrow.

The victim’s name, age and home town are not being released until Monday at the earliest.

So sad …. condolences to his family …. breaks my heart that people can’t go to work & safely return home at the end of the day.

The shock and the total devastation emotionally is what hit me many years ago, but it’s like it was yesterday. Very sad for those close to him, wish it didn’t have to happen.
