Prince George, B.C. – It looks like the federal NDP may soon have a candidate in place for the Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies riding.

Judy Fox-McGuire was elected president of the riding association earlier this month and tells 250 News it looks the party will have a race on its hands.

“At this time we’ve had two people who are interested and we’ve had a couple more people who’s names have been bandied about,” she says. “We’re just in the process of talking to them about what that’s going to look like if they enter the nomination.”

Fox-McGuire won’t name names just yet, but expects the nomination process will be announced shortly.

“We’re going to be meeting this week with the riding association and we’ll be setting up a timeline for the nomination meeting and candidate selection,” she says. “We have to vet our candidates and we’ll be moving forward.”

Fox-McGuire says there’s a positive vibe surrounding the party, especially after there huge provincial win in Alberta earlier this month.

“I really think it’s positive. I think people are ready for a change and they’re ready to move forward with some new ideas finally.”

The riding is currently represented by Conservative MP Bob Zimmer. No word yet from the Liberal and Green parties as to when they plan to nominate their candidates.

The federal election will take place October 19.

Too bad the NDP doesn’t have any, and the ‘old ideas’ it still clings to have been proven time and again, wherever they’ve been tried, not to work.

And they want to shut down the dam in FT.ST.JOHN and the L.N.G. so much for jobs and growth. They get in then we will really see recession in B.C.

Hey charles, why don’t you run for the Liberal nomination. They were begging people last election.

charles the poster was hilarious!

Charles; your link was so apropos. Thanks for the laugh.

oh , please, no more majority governments….

Good one Charles . Kind of ironic with last PC in the new frankenparty gone . Thirty of them aren’t running again . Elmers kid has been a total failer .the surpreme court will have to clean up the legislation he left in his diaper . What a stinking mess those amateurs have left . The biggest deficit in Canadian history . They spent over two billion dollars on R&D in 2013 all but a few pennies went to the heavy ( tar ) oil industry . You can find the break down in the globe and mail . I guess Munk is proud of that fact .

Good one Charles!I don’t recall Preston Manning being sworn in as Prime Minister! It’s kinda hard to keep election promises while being only in the position of official opposition!

However, the ad is a great template for ALL parties! Thay ALL play the same game! Even after actually getting elected! It has already started in Alberta: We had no idea how big the mess really is when we made those election promises! So don’t hold your breath! Instead of lowering your taxes we will have to increase them!

I’ll copy and paste another comment I made.

Most dialog on this site is wasted.

Why?

Because most conservatives don’t think. They don’t question, they don’t doubt. And they sure don’t listen. But they sure like to hang out here together.

Conservatism had always been rooted in a preference for the traditional and established ways of doing things and Harper has harnessed that well. I’ve had debates with people who carry conservative membership cards, and proven them wrong in debate, yet had them conclude “I can’t prove it but you’re wrong”. But in spite of this blind filial loyalty Conservatism is dying.

Why? Because they violated their core values and lost the youth on one hand and because their demographic is dying off due to old age on the other.

Just like in the states, they have been bought by lobbyists that fed us the false hope of trickle-down economics. We were promised that if we paid more in taxes, and corporations less the economy would grow and we’d all benefit.

Even here in the great conservative (read poorly educated and very religious) bastion- we must notice that the Canadian middle class is struggling.

As mentioned above Conservatism had always been rooted in a preference for the traditional and established ways of doing things, which in Canada has included a strong middle class. See http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/canadian-politics/income-growth-for-canadian-middle-class-families-lags-behind-other-groups-report for a summary if you’ve been out of the loop on this. Simply put- we’re hurting.

Yet in spite of the lowest corporate tax rates in Canadian history (and matching increases in middle class user fees and shrinking federal transfer payments to the provinces and cities and the inevitable falling apart of our infrastructure) we see record growth in Canadian funds in offshore accounts. See http://www.pressprogress.ca/en/post/corporate-canadas-cash-tax-havens-explodes-199-billion-under-stephen-harper for an interesting read. Yet we just laid off 3000 revenue Canada auditors. Excellent move, but for who?

Harper has been very clever. He has masked a pro 1% agenda by garnering Christian support for his government while acting in a very un-Christian fashion. (See http://www.patheos.com/blogs/unreasonablefaith/2011/08/the-wall-o-socialist-bible-quotes for proof that Jesus was a communist. Not many pastors preach that but then again poor people don’t tithe well.) Most of the western world is abandoning Christianity in astonishing fashion (see http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2012/12/10/generation-y-religion-canada-millennials-faith_n_2244548.html for a Canadian take on it)

Conclusion – Harper is losing his base of religious fundamentalists and even his core that aren’t blind ideologues are realizing the emperor looks pretty silly naked.

The conservatives may yet hold on for another election with a minority. The old folks still come out in droves to vote. But thankfully they’re dying. And the generations below them – below the boomers, well we’re better educated and aren’t as easy to fool. And we can always hope for a coalition.
