Prince George, B.C. – Eight new fire starts are keeping crews in the Fort Nelson Fire Zone busy.

Fire information officer Jill Kelsh says all but one of the fires were started by lightning and notes two are over 200 hectares in size.

The largest is the Dunedin River Fire, located 95 km west of Fort Nelson, at 240 hectares.

She says the smoke from this blaze may be visible in Fort Nelson while noting no structures are currently threatened.

Kelsh adds the second largest fire, the 200 hectare Grayling River fire, is located 75 km north of Toad River, and says no structures are threatened there either.

She says smoke from that blaze may be visible from the Alaska Highway.

Kelsh notes the fire danger rating is currently “high” to “extreme” through the entire Fort Nelson Fire Zone and asks anyone who spots a fire to call 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on a cell phone.
