Government Funding Announcement “Old News” says Simpson
Prince George, B.C. – It must be election season.
That’s the only way Quesnel Mayor Bob Simpson was able to make sense of a funding announcement out of Cariboo-Prince George Conservative MP Dick Harris’ office this week.
On Tuesday, a news release from Harris announced that the Quesnel Community and Economic Development Corporation will receive $6,860 through the Government of Canada’s “Invest Canada – Community Initiatives” program to help the City attract foreign investment and create local jobs.
The thing is said Simpson, the money’s not new.
“I guess we’re in election season because this is not news and it’s not new. And as much as we appreciate the federal government assisting us in investment attraction, I’m a bit befuddled as to why the announcement is coming out now.”
In fact he called the announcement “months old,” adding the City spent the money “at least four or five months ago.”
“We’ve actually expended that fund, our economic development officer and our grant writer had taken training,” said Simpson. “We’ve increased some of our investment portfolio information for foreign investors so it’s targeted as assisting us in getting more foreign investment and again it’s good news we got the money but the announcement itself is just political timing more than timing for us.”
250 News contacted Harris regarding this story but he did not respond.

That is the Bob Simpson that I have always liked coming out. He can’t stand BS from government, whether BCLiberals, Conservatives or NDP. That is why he ended up as an Independent.
Hopefully Quesnel will still receive federal funds.
Obviously the people in Dicks office are in retirement mode also. Will DOHerty keep the same staff ?
I did not realize Doherty was elected yet.
I apologize. Substitute the word “Would” in place of the word “Will”.
It’s embarrassing enough to put out a press release for a whopping $6,860 – let alone for money sent and spent ages ago. Nice one, Stephen and Company.
“…will receive $6,860 through the Government of Canada’s “Invest Canada – Community Initiatives” program to help the City attract foreign investment and create local jobs.”
One can do all that with less than 7 grand of Harper dollars??? To run that ICCI Ottawa program for sure costs more than that for just half a day of bureaucratic paper pushing!
What a joke!
