Prince George, B.C. – It may be only temporary, but Costco is no longer offering the cheapest gas in Prince George.

That honour now goes to the Esso station at 20th and Spruce for $107.4 per litre. The second lowest price is at another Esso station, at Boeing Road and Gunn Road at $109.9.

Unleaded at Costco is currently going for $113.9, along with the Mohawk on George Street and Race Trac on the Hart Highway.

Costco must be sleeping at the switch. Usually Esso’s prices are among the highest in town.

That wont last long, give it a day tops and then back to gouging.

I said and did this a few years ago, and was surprised at how nobody cared, people just seem to believe they are getting the litres the pump reads out. Not very many people fill gas cans for the lawn mower?!I filled a brand new 20 litre jerry can at several outlets from 100 mile, PG and Fort St John. They didn’t vary a little due to the pump settings for weather changes, it was an extreme difference to say the least. I had some pumps tell me I purchased from 28 to 32 litres! The worst places was 100 mile, PG and Smithers. Way beyond what the allowed expansion calc they use that is supposed to be government inspected. Maybe this pump cranking is being better controlled now?!, but it still cracks me up on how people will get so excited over a couple cents a litre difference,ha

Esso must have lost many customers, when they try to be the cheapest now, usually they were always most expensive.
Gas still way too expensive!

Costco was just $105.9 a few days ago.

Well, last night I noticed the posted price $1.109 at the Bon Voyage Esso. Yes, Esso is usually the highest – AND they still get customers! Go figure!!!

Best yet, drive into Superstore, use their PC Mastercard and you will get 7 cents in coupon – and their before discount price being as good as most others. AND, they have Diesel! Similar advantage to fuelling up at Canadian Tire – use their gift card system.

I paid 105.9 at Costco Friday afternoon. That’s quite the jump in price.

I just came by the Shell on 5th and Tabor their prices are $1.189 a liter for regular

….I guess the gas companies used that fire at the Taylor plant as an excuse to put up prices after all.

Another reason to consider the Esso at 20th and Spruce.. you get a free stabbing, or mugging, with every fill.

I still remember when Costco first started putting the gas pumps in.. One of the “professors” at UNBC said this.. Costco selling gas may or may not impact local prices. We pay this person how much to teach his drivel..lol

Now Costco is the one all the others are compared to.

checkitout: That’s what I’ve been saying. I think our ‘litres’ have been converted to U.S. quarts, so now we’re getting .946 of a litre instead of a full litre.
It was bad enough when they went from Imp. gallons to litres but now I think we’ve gone to U.S. measurements and nobody said a word about it.

I get a kick out of the people who fuel up at a Petro Can at 131.9 p/l and the Esso across the street is a 118.9

Costco was smart they were selling memberships by offering lower gas costs and now they too can enjoy the fruits of higher gas costs and the sheer profits of the memberships they sold…..

Givemore:

“There is a sign on the gasoline pump that says the fuel is temperature is corrected to 15 C. What does this mean?
Gasoline, like everything else, expands as it gets warmer and contracts as it gets colder. Without temperature correction, a litre of gasoline on a warm day would contain less gasoline by weight than on a cold day. Gasoline is sold by volume but what you are actually paying for is the energy to make your car go. Temperature correction ensures that, regardless of temperature, you receive the same amount of energy for your purchase although the volume may differ. Measurement Canada, an agency of Industry Canada, regulates measurement of gasoline at the pump”

According to Measurement Canada 1 litre of fuel is still 1000 ml but the gasoline by weight in the winter will be higher so they are allowed to sell you less millilitres per litre to compensate for this.

According to Industry Canada:
“An electronic device called an automatic temperature compensator measures the temperature of the fuel during delivery and automatically calculates the amount of fuel as though it had been delivered at 15 °C. The words “Volume Corrected to 15 °C” must appear immediately next to the displayed net quantity on all fuel pumps equipped with an automatic temperature compensator. In Canada, the use of automatic temperature compensation (ATC) is optional on gasoline and diesel fuel pumps”

They are allowed to correct the fuel to 15 degrees celcius. What they are saying is if checkitout were to put all the jerry cans he filled side by side until the temperature of the gas in all containers reached 15 degrees celcius they would all be the same volume if he purchased 20 litres for each container.

So find a gas station that does not use this and you get more fuel

Thanks give more.

I have an engineer friend that is an exec at one of the largest filling chains. He told me their are inspectors that periodically check pumps to ensure they are within the allowable adjusting calcs. He said the obvious, too many stations and just a few inspectors. When they find a pump jacked up, there is hell to pay.

The last time I found a ripoff, the guy next to me asked what was so funny. I re-set the pump and filled another 20 litre jug while he and his wife watched. The pump gave me 32 litres, watching his wife lose it was pure entertainment! I thought it may be out of the proper calcs,ha

They hauled the guy out of the station to look, I had filled it exactly to the 20litre mark. He told me the jug was stretched?! baha

Welcome to our world, like I said, nobody gives a crap
