Rental Unit Vacancy Rate Increases in P.G.

Prince George, B.C. – The housing rental market in Prince George has improved over the past year when it comes to the availability of units.

The latest report from Canada Mortgage and Housing indicates the vacancy rate from April of 2014 and April of this year, has increased by 1.1%.

In April of last year, the rate was 4.2%. April 2015 recorded a vacancy rate of 5.3%.

The average cost of a two bedroom unit was $782 dollars in April of 2015, a 3.2% increase over the $766 dollars one would have paid in the same month a year ago.

Here’s how the vacancy rates have changed in other ‘250’ area communities:

Provincially, in all B.C. communities with a population of 10 thousand or more, the average vacancy rate in April was 1.8%, down from 2.4% recorded a year earlier. The average rent was $1,136, a 3% increase over the year.

No wonder with things like D.P. Todd making the national news . I would want my grandkids in that catchment .

I would not want anyone’s kids to have to grow up in that kind of environment .
