Rustad Announces Provincial Funding Initiatives
Prince George, B.C. – Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation Minister John Rustad has made a pair of announcements in Prince George on behalf of the provincial government.
They came on an historic day in which the flag of the Lheidli T’enneh took a permanent position at City Hall alongside the flags of the City of Prince George, British Columbia and Canada, and a day which saw the name Fort George park replaced by Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park in what Councilor Murry Krause called “a reclaiming, it’s not a re-naming but a reclaiming” by the Lheidli T’enneh people.
Rustad says the B.C. government is joining Reconciliation Canada, the UBCM and the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres to hold 100 reconciliation dialogue workshops in BC. The province is contributing $300,000 to train community facilitators before a province-wide tour in 2016.
As well Rustad says the province is providing a $25,000 grant for the City of Prince George and the Lheidli T’enneh to create a memorial to be placed in the park. Councilor Krause says the first step will be to sit down with Chief Dominic Frederick to see what ideas his people might have.

Wow, the good news just keeps on coming. Thanks for the reconciliation dialogue funding, something tells me Prince George is one place where a few reconciliation dialogue workshops would be of great benefit.
Such an exciting time we live in, no need to fear the changes people.
Not saying I’m against this. The training is $300,000. How much will the tour cost?
We oughta’ be thrilled!
The Good News is never ending!
$300,000.00 to train facilitators–and then what is the pay for touring to spread the good news and what comes next!! Better be good or whitey is not going to be one of the Stompin’ Toms in this venture.
That $25,000.00 should cover the costs of a new sign or two–but other than that the Chief better come up with something Krause can wrap his head around before presenting it to council???
Naught–council will pass whatever?
O.K. are all the Whiteys forgiven now–or are there still issues that need attention?
Oh NO-not the MILLAR addition again???
Hey M.K. I guess if they are “reclaiming” the park there will be no need for any further city participation in the operation of the park. that should leave a whole bunch of money to fix pot holes.Man I’m sure glad I don’t have to live in PG
Maybe I should do some “reclaiming” to right the wrongs of my high school years. As a caucasion person, that will not fly. Let the past be the past. there has been enough appologies for the same thing over the past decade.
