Prince George, B.C. – It’s Legion Week in B.C., with events planned across the province, including Prince George.

On Sunday, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43 will host a barbecue at the Railway and Forestry Museum.

“It’s a free barbecue with hot dogs, hamburgers, ice-cream, and rides on the train,” says president Bruce Gabriel. “Admission is free with the donation of a non-perishable food item with proceeds going to the local food bank.”

Vice-president John Scott says it’s events like these that help keep the Legion in the public eye.

“It’s very important because we want to capture the attention of our youth. It plants a seed which is what we want to do.”

Gabriel says Canada’s recent mission to Afghanistan has helped in that regard.

“The last four, five years it’s really grown. It’s important people remember – not to celebrate the wars but to remember what happens so hopefully we can avoid these things in the future.”
