Arbitration Hearing Dates Set for UNBC and Faculty Dispute
Prince George, B.C. -Arbitrator Stan Lanyon, QC will meet with both parties in the UNBC – Faculty contract dispute over the summer, and hearings are now set for the late fall.
The UNBC Faculty Association’s two-week strike in March was ended when the UNBC Administration applied for mediation under Section 55, which lays out a special process for first collective agreements. At the conclusion of that process, Board-appointed mediator Trevor Sones recommended that the parties refer the matter to binding arbitration.
Arbitrator Lanyon will hold hearings on the 19, 20th 21st and 30th of November and on December 7th.
“We look forward to meeting with Mr Lanyon to present our positions and evidence,” said Dr Ted Binnema, Chief Negotiator of the Faculty Association.

UNBC would be very wise to try to settle this one ASAP. Peeving off all of their faculty and staff is a recipe for disaster. Especially at a time when their enrollments are dwindling. What’s up with that TV commercial where UNBC are giving people a free education?
