Friday Free for All – July 3

Thursday, July 2, 2015 @ 11:59 PM

Wow, that  what a great party  on July 1st, but the mid week day off  made it hard  to head back to work for the balance of the week.

So here we are,  first  Friday in a new month,  and it is  time for  your weekly open thread.

It’s time for the Friday Free For All.

You pick the topic, but remember our three simple rules:

Keep it clean

Keep it legal

No Bullying

Those  who are  not able to  follow those rules will have their comments removed, and risk  losing posting privileges.

Bill 377 was passed in the Senate two days ago. I have voted Conservative in the past , never again. They seem hell bent on eliminating labour unions and bringing in as much foreign labour as they can .

Good comment oldcoot, this government is hell bent on busting the backs of unions and Canadian workers in favour of TFW’s. My Friday Free For All goes beyond the abuse of our workers at home, it focuses on alleged human rights abuses by Canadian Mining Companies world-wide.

Imperial Metals; Mount Polley Mine, will undoubtedly get a free pass to start-up operations, because IMO, it gets coddled and protected here at home by our provincial and federal governments, just like Canadian Mining Companies, accused of abusing human rights world-wide, do so with impunity because our Federal Government refuses to intervene in any manner.

“Over the last two decades, as Canadian companies dig in evermore far-flung corners of the world for gold and other precious metals, disturbing accusations of human rights abuses follow. Troubling allegations are currently before Ontario Superior Court involving the killing of a local activist and school teacher, the shooting of a young man and the gang-rapes of 11 women, each crime alleged to have been carried out by a Canadian company’s private security forces in Guatemala.” This is only one Canadian Mining Company in Guatemala, there are a number of Canadian mining companies alleged to be carrying out human rights abuses in other countries they operate in.

In some cases, our Canadian Embassy staff, in those countries, have been actively engaged in supporting and protecting Canadian Mining Companies accused of human rights violations. Later on in this Friday Free For All, I will be dropping a bombshell about how the Harper Government has responded to these alleged serious human rights abuses being perpetrated by Canadian Mining Companies.

Over the years I have posted responses to adds on Kijiji and Craigslist with no replies…nothing, nada, zilch! After repeated attempts at contacting the seller still nothing. WHAT THE HELL?? If you want to sell your unwanted stuff why would you not respond to a potential buyer??
Could anyone please share their thoughts or experiences as to why this is a common practice among sellers?

BTW, Happy Friday!

Re- adds on Kijiji and Craigslist

Lots of times ,what I found, is the item is sold and the seller hasn’t removed the add. They let the add run until it expires. And the worst ones are the adds that don’t have a phone number.

Over the years I have come to really appreciate the good drivers out there. You know, the ones who always signal, who don’t cut corners, brake gently and generally seem to take their responsibility seriously for themselves and everyone else on the road.

The others well, I ascribe to being new drivers or simply very slow learners. These I give extra caution to.

The good drivers, you don’t seem to pay too much attention to because they are driving according to the rules and are predictable.

The poor drivers stand out because of their driving habits draw attention to themselves, you know, not signalling, not stopping at stop signs or red lights when turning right, following too close, hard braking or simply not paying attention to their driving.

Those are the ones we take note of and give a little more attention to, even though it is aggravating. You have to since you’re driving amongst them and want to keep yourself and others around you safe as well.

Hope everyone has a safe, fun weekend. Drive safely.

U.S. Vice President Biden will be at the women’s World Cup final to cheer on his team in Vancouver . I bet Steve won’t show his face for fear of being booed out of the stadium .

I did not realize Canada was playing in the final game. Harper has not got a hometown team to cheers for.

Then again, he is the head of state of the country where the world cup is being held. There must be some protocol for the closing ceremonies.

Seems to be an epidemic this week in boat trailers that have tire failure and then no spare tire.

It usually goes like this… guy flys by doing well over the speed limit dragging the boat behind weaving in and out of traffic… small boat tires are not rated for 120-140kph so they fail in the hot weather at these speeds. Guy blows a tire and pulls to the side of the road, then stands there scratching his head wondering A)how did he get a flat tire, and B)does anyone else have a spare tire they can lend that is the right size with the other trailer tires so he can move his unit from the side of the road.

I’ve seen about a dozen of them this week on the side of the road… some really nice expensive boats, and of course no spare tire for the boat trailer.

A good case for the worst Prime Minister in Canadian history is made. Looking at everything from policy, the environment, economy, budget, foreign affairs… they lay it all out in the open for everyone to read and judge for themselves.

I see on the netbistro website a poll asking if you support bill c-51 the yes vote is leading. All you con bashers dash over there and fix it.

@gopg he can’t vet to whole stadium and no room for a run-in closet .

What are you on about seamutt? The Liberals voted for C-51 too. Do you only pay attention when they vote against your beloved Con-men?

Watchdog… that’s awesome! +1 on your comment. You gave me a great laugh.

Also the women’s World Cup is about women and girls . I have yet to meet a woman that doesn’t find Steve creepy . I don’t think he likes women , missing or otherwise .

Plus 2 watchdog

What are you on about brother gecko, I said “all you con bashers”, please comprehend. As for being conservative where did I say that. All you con- bashers tend to ignore history of the other parties or just attempt to rewrite it as done with the rename of Fort George Park.

That’s right brogecko . We’ve got two parties on the right , one party on the left and one party in the middle .

watchdog: If you can look into these two guys’ history, one of them at least has probably been in trouble with the law for many, many years.

Give more, yes both of them have lengthy records, although they show Mr Herron’s birth in 1969. Obviously the rehabilition process has not worked for either.

Eagleone . Greece’s GDP is less than half of Ontario’s . The big winner if Greece leaves the euro and euro zone would be Europe . They are the worst tax evading country in Europe . That’s why they can’t service the debt . My financial mentor calls Greece a mere wiz in the bucket that is euro . I hope they are stupid enough to vote no . If they do vote no the country it will revert back to military rule . We’ve seen this movie before

Greece is also accustomed to maintaining a huge expensive military, bigger per capita than other European countries! Who would attack Greece? Nobody! Greece is just another country which is used to having as many people as possible on the government payroll, high salaries, gold plated early pensions and so forth. Some call it the Greek disease.

There is talk of slashing military expenses by cutting the number of forces, so the military are already growling! A movie in the making!

Eagle you should worry more about canada than Greece . We are now in recession . Four months of negative GDP . Joe owe Oliver is now changing the definition of recession to harpernomics . However two U.S. Banks say we are in recession and are calling for a 70 cent Canadian dollarette . This will not end well .

I see the web site moderator has no sense of history and maybe should read a book or two.

My my someone believing what a bank has to say. Taking a screen shot of that. Oh well picking cherries.

I posted a comment about the wide spread human rights violations Canada’s mining companies are alleged to be involved in throughout the world. The following link piles on more examples than were listed in my previous comment.

http: //thetyee.ca/News/2013/09/30/Mining-Controversies/

So what has Harper done to prevent, or address, these Canadian mining company controversies? Well we know the Harper government spent more than $180,000 last year to run the office of a corporate social responsibility counsellor for the Canadian mining industry — even though there was no counsellor. The position has been vacant since October 2013 and remains vacant to this day… must be nice squandering $181,600 per year on a Corporate Social Responsibility Office that has no counsellor.

www. cbc.ca/news/politics/feds-pay-180k-to-run-mining-counsellor-s-office-with-no-counsellor-1.2935995

So this is the Harper Government’s response to alleged widespread, murder, torture, and gang rape of local citizens in other countries who would dare oppose Canadian mining companies operations. How does a church going Prime Minister reconcile this type of inaction, and moreover directs Canadian embassy staff to support and assist Canadian mining companies who are involved in these alleged human rights violating atrocities?

No doubt about it, we have an immoral Prime Minister, and government, leading our country!!!

That’s right seamutt . That’s how it’s done . Picking cherries that is . I have much , much more exposure in the U.S. Markets than the Canadian markets . I wouldn’t mind another ten percent gain on top of the twenty seven percent already in . Canada is in trouble because we are not properly diversified economicly .

The Euro is losing ground against the US dollar as well. The USA is coming out of a major recession which Canada managed to weather quite well. THAT is the story in my view. Travel around the US for a while, and one can see that everything is not quite rosy yet. People still have houses which could be foreclosed, but the banks are biding their time.

We know one person who bought a house in 2006 for around $430,000 in small town USA. It is now assessed at around $240,000. The owner still has a mortgage of around $380,000. They should be walking away from it. Or, as they do in the States, do a short sale with the agreement of the bank (short because it is short of the mortgage still owed). In some cases, I believe the Federal government guarantees the difference or part of the difference.

According to online real estate database Zillow, in 2014 nearly 10 million Americans were financially trapped by homes worth less than their mortgage debts. That is still a financial drag on the U.S. economy almost seven years after the housing bust caused the great US recession.

That was an improvement from 25.4 percent figure in the previous year.

To put that into further context, the 2014 figure is about four times the historic average.

Then we have to remember that a strong Canadian Dollar versus the US$ means our service and manufacturing industry will struggle once more. By the same token, a strong US$ will work the same way for the USA.

If it is a matter of both countries “saving face”, I say who cares. We all want the best for our people. We do not have to spend our dollar in countries outside of Canada. Learn how to vacation in Greece for a few years. I am sure many in the US will do the same.

“….the wide spread human rights violations Canada’s mining companies are alleged to be involved in throughout the world”

That has been going on for many decades irrespective of who is in power. There is little the Canadian Government can do about it. They are not in control in those countries.

Most companies, whether Canadian or most other countries will do the MINIMUM they have to do when it comes to regulations. Some countries have tougher regulations than others.

We see the term “open for business” around here a lot in reference to PG City Hall. Well, provinces, states, countries all use the same phrase, meaning the same thing – MINIMUM regulations.

amnestyusa.org/our-work/issues/business-and-human-rights/oil-gas-and-mining-industries

We do not have to spend our money in other countries ? Really . So how the heck do you protect your investments in a falling market and dollar ? Just watch the money leave the country , When the condo market goes even further into the tank . Have a look at Alberta , they have an average debt to earnings ratio of $2.50 for every dollar earned . Canadian average is $1.64 and rising . The USA is putting on 250k jobs a month while we are losing jobs from coast to coast at a staggering rate .

Glad to hear the City stepped in and did something bout the Company that painted the road lines.. Cheers for The City

We would like to thank Elaine and her crew for being on top of our local news and not being afraid to print it like it is , good or bad. News that you never see printed any place else except on 250. SO THANKS.

gopg2015 states; “That has been going on for many decades irrespective of who is in power. There is little the Canadian Government can do about it. They are not in control in those countries.” This with respect to Canadian Mining Companies viloating human rights in countries they operate in… we are talking about “murder, torture and gang rape” here folks.

And yes, Canada could have done something about it. “Last week’s defeat of Liberal MP John McKay’s Responsible Mining Act is in some ways unsurprising. The extractive industry is a large, wealthy and well-connected interest group, with prominent ex-politicians, including former Liberal Minister of International Trade Jim Peterson, among its lobbyists.”

It was the Harper Government Conservatives that defeated this Bill, had it passed, Bill C-300 would have required extractive companies operating in developing countries to comply with certain international human rights and environmental standards widely accepted by the industry as best practice. Failure to do so would have resulted in, among other things, Export Development Canada withdrawing financial support and Canadian trade commissions and embassies ceasing to support and promote those companies’ activities.

Ataloss do you have any idea of the unsecured debt in the US. Hows your dilated powered house, should be doing great right now.

“Who would attack Greece?”

Greece probably does not need to fear imminent invasion, but it isn’t hard to see why Greeks would feel the need to keep powerful armed forces. Greece fought a bitter war to free itself from the Ottoman Empire followed at intervals by several lesser clashes with Turkey over the next hundred years. Greece still has territorial disputes with Turkey and sees Turkey as expansionist. Although Cyprus is not actually part of Greece, Greece sees the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and continued occupation of northern Cyprus via a puppet government as evidence of Turkish interest in Greek territory. Greece was invaded by Italy and Germany in WWII and then fought a nasty civil war in which the Communist side was backed by Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, and Albania. There is no longer a Communist threat, but the memory is still there.

You guys do know that Greece is a member of NATO , right ?

Very difficult to see see comments on mobile phone

What unsecured debt are you talking about seamutt ? Did you have a look at Kimberly sunmine ? Did you have a look at onecowichan.ca ? This sort of thing is happening all across the Country but you won’t hear about it in msm until we reach critical mass in canada and that’s coming fast . Anyone that wants to be proactive should not miss onecowichan.ca and yes seamutt , it’s a sunny day .

Tractor, same page rendering problem on my mobile, as a work around I use Dolphin Browser and open the full site page, not the mobile page, works great!

Parking… What seems to be the problem with parking in between the lines and only taking one spot lengthwise as well?

Today at mr mikes some person in his “making up for shortcomings” pretty dodge. Decided to take up two spots lengthwise.. At pine centre some clown with a shortcomings truck parked taking up 4 spots in their dually..then outside my bank another shortcomings truck only pulled into spit 2/3rdsnof the way..leaving his back end stuck out blocking traffic.

Maybe they need booster seats to see over the dash? So can’t judge distance.. Or they are just ignorant…

Smokers! Do us all a favour, quit chucking your butts out the windows of your vehicle! Flicking ashes are also a hazard. Put an ashtray in your vehicle or us a empty beer can. I mean pop can.

US unfunded debt 144 trillion.

WAL MART
Heard Wal Mart is stopping production and distribution of their flyers to SAVE money… Go figure.. Maybe save money by getting rid of a lot of the managers there and train everyone in all aspects of the store… they have too many managers up there.. AND hurry and do repairs to their electronic monitors by the Express Lanes.. Maybe not fixing them to save money too… WHO KNOWS

Ataloss, we should all be buying Canfor & West Fraser stock, they seem to get a good deal on fiber supply in Canadian dollars and then sell their product for US dollars. So for them — bring on a 65 to 70 cent dollar and watch the bottom line. we should convert our cash reserves in the banks to gold bullion.Cypress,Greece who is next with cash grab? I see Sweden is now paying a whopping -0.35% on bank deposits.

seamutt

Not to mention that 50 million americans are on food stamps and the fed has loaned out 72 times what it has in assets. The IMF is only 3 to 1 in comparison

Well today I thought I would have a look at the wood innovation building that I helped to pay for and guess what I could not even get in the main door to the bloody lobby , what the heck is going on ? is there even anyone in the building ? If not we could get someone to make lumber of it and ship it over seas at a profit.. Then all our governments could pat themselves on the back.. well I like the idea…

Poor gold miner canfor looks not to bad but no dividend . West frazer looks better but tiny dividend . As for gold , that’s been dead money since 2011 and likely will for much longer . Gold doesn’t pay a dividend . It can easily return to the 800s .

Fire ban on and what do I see but a smoker throwing their cigarette butt out the window into the grassy ditch. Where is your head at.

I am confused, then Public Safety Minister, Vic Toews stated publicly in the House of Commons; “He can either stand with us or with the child pornographers.” In reference to supporting Bill C-30 (the Internet Spying Bill). Ummm… I guess Conservative Senator Don Meredith didn’t get that message, nor the distinction between the two sets of values.

www. thestar.com/news/gta/2015/06/17/teen-alleges-two-year-affair-with-senator-don-meredith.html

This evil man makes Patrick Brazeau look like a choir boy. Completely disgusting stuff from a party and government that claims Christian values.
