Prince George, B.C. – Organizers of this year’s Northern Hardware PG Centennial Canoe Race are hailing the event as a “resounding success.”

Fiona and Mike Vincent of Regina were the overall winners of the 67.5 km race from Isle Pierre to Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park in a time of 3:39:43.

Patrick Turner and Greg Blackburn of Prince George finished second in a time of 3:40:03 while Chris Cupp (PG) and Harry James (Vernon) rounded out the top three at 3:40:12.

Chris Nicholson (Kamloops) and Randy Brooks won the 35 km contest from Wilkins Park in Miworth to Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park in a time of 1:22:15

Tony and Wendy Fiala of Prince George finished second (1:25:31) while Bonnie Hoogie and Craig Evanoff of Prince George came in third in a time of 1:26:30.

The day’s activities also included a salmon barbecue, cash prizes and awards.

The event had been on hiatus for several years before being brought back this summer for the City’s centennial celebrations.

Good pic 250 photo . Nice background too . Maybe one day they will give you a by line . You deserve one .

I remember back in the day, these races were very well attended, both by participants and by spectators.
The Ft. St. James one to Ft. George Park was the big one. What’s happened to all the canoe athletes these days?
Northern Hardware should be given a big hand too. They sponsored the races back then as well.

Where was the Northwest Brigade Canoe Club? And where were the big brigade canoes? Sorry, I missed the whole thing.

Already getting tired of his winery being in the background of a photo. Free publicity just like photo op Shirley.

Does anyone know which liquor outlets have the wine for sale?

I rest my case, a comment about “his” wine rather than the canoe race, looks like the free advertising is having it’s intended effect on the sheeple.

Ha ha you are the one that brought it up ya ninny. Maybe you believe the tubers were hired by the winery to call for help when they reached the right spot for a photo… nothing is ever coincidence, it is always a conspiracy.

“Sheeple”? It’s been my observation that people who use that term, are themselves “sheeple” Maybe think of something more original if you want to show your plebeian distaste for the general public. As for the photo op comment, you obviously know nothing about photography and perspective. The photographer in all likely hood wanted the viewer to have some idea where the canoeist were in relation to the rest of the River. The winery makes a great backdrop and gives some interest and perspective to the photo. Find something else to whine about.

Hey, I thought the article was about the Canoe Race – not a bellyache route for some political soreheads who don’t like where or in what direction a photo is taken.
I was at the Fort George Park watching the racers come in. Perhaps we will see the resurrection of the historic canoe race. The organizers did well.

Well “his” winery has been used twice in the last week as a back drop in a 250news photo, not to worry, I will keep count.

Yes Sage, and as stated before, first time was during the rescue of some individuals tubing down the river so the tubers and riverboats must have somehow been involved with the winery.

By any chance does “his” building happen to be opposite the boat launch at Cottonwood Island Park or another place where one can take unimpeded photos from the shore? (I am actually curious as I do not know)

We’ve always liked northern hardware . Good product lines and great service . Parking can be a hassle but well worth it . Maybe the next race could be crowd sourced for bigger prizes . We’d love to contribute in order to attract more contestants and grow the event . I’m sure more of us would as well . What were the prizes this year .

Kudos to the event organizers for the restoration of a Prince George Classic … Brings back memories of other classics … Like the Birchleg … those were times when PG rallied to do community-based participation events … Thank you to all involved.
