Prince George, B.C. – Well over 100 people turned out for a community barbecue in the VLA Sunday afternoon.

The “Growing Safe Communities” event was co-hosted by the Prince George RCMP and the Prince George VLA Enhancement Association.

Community Policing coordinator Linda Parker said the event was a chance “to connect with the community in the VLA,” and to “promote neighbourhood safety.”

Lee Stewart, director of the VLA Enhancement Association, added it was a chance to build community pride.

“The goal of this is getting back to the good old days where you were a community. You knew your neighbours and we’ve lost that,” he said.

“Somewhere along the line we’ve got into this computer age where people don’t know each other and they talk to eachother through text messages while they’re standing next to each other. So we’re trying to bring people together.”
