Facebook Page Aims to “Postpone” Federal Election Campaign
Prince George, B.C. – We may be in the midst of a federal election campaign, but Prince George resident Laura Weller doesn’t want to hear about it quite yet.
In fact the public health care worker and mother of three has created a Facebook page to show her displeasure. It’s called Federal Election Self-Postponement.
“We’ve been talking at work a little bit, me and my younger colleagues about how 11 weeks is a little too long and how we’re a little hungry for a change in the ruling government,” she says.
“So it’s my way of saying, hey, we’re going to level the playing field for those who may not have the budget to campaign and that I’m not going to pay attention until the last five weeks.”
Weller says she’s received a “varied” reaction to her page, which she says includes voters of all stripes.
“Most of my personal friends are all like, hey yeah, that’s great, let’s postpone our general interest level, it’s not going to take us that long to make up our minds,” she says.
“But I saw a comment this morning from someone who thought that I’m encouraging voter apathy which I’m absolutely not. I think it’s our duty to be politically active but 11 weeks is going to be more of a turn off to people who are undecided or non-voters in my opinion.”
And how does she plan to vote? “I’m not a decided voter, but I’m definitely an ABC (anything but Conservative) voter. I’m waiting to see what our options are.”

She can postpone interest all she likes, however it wont make a bit of difference. We will be inundated with politics until election day.
The race is on. On TV to-day I saw Justin kissing babies, that makes it pretty clear we are in election mode.
Our public sector workers complain that they are stressed out at work due to what they consider a large workload! I would hope that this public sector public health care worker and her co-workers are having their discussions while on their lunch and coffee breaks and are not carrying on their discussions while at work! That would be both inappropriate and unprofessional!
Hart guy. You make me smile with each of your silly posts. Guess it’s only union shops and now government employess that must only talk about work every working minute, and I am sure as a boss you never ever do any private business while at work..because that would set a bad example.. And then following your king harpers continuing example of…they did it so I can you are asking your employees to talk about non work things while on the clock. Yikes..you may have just started anarchy ;)
Right on Laura I’m doing the same thing . When Stevie comes on the tv or radio I can change the channel quicker than he can get two words out . I’m not going to watch bnn until the election is over . I’m boycotting any media that pushes the cons down our throats . And if Liz isn’t invited to a debate I’m not watching . I’m only one person but they will not sell me anything if it stained by harpo ads . We are the 60 percent of voters that would never vote to hurt canada , adman ! We are your bread and butter . I for one have a very long memory .
You gotta love these abc voters. Do they even stand for anything?
Yes,findme , we stand for canada .
Ataloss. If you stand for Canada we are in deep trouble. In any event keep up your hyperbole. I notice that you say you are avoiding ads and tuning out Harper, however you seem more than happy to continue to post on this site, so you are not avoiding the election altogether.
Please continue to post, because your vitriol will ultimately convince more people to vote for Harper. Tks. for the support.
Everything has been carefully arranged: Duffy will not be called to testify before November, after the election. The only potential trouble could come from Nigel Wright who will be called on the witness stand under oath next week. However, the lawyers seem to be having a handle on that potentially troublesome episode. There is a finger to plug every potential hole in the dike!
When is comes to fingers, we should have another comment from digitus impudicus.
P Val, my post states that I HOPE that they are having these discussions during their breaks and lunch hour! Public sector workers seem to complain a lot about how overworked and stressed out they are! Private sector workers don’t seem to complain nearly as much or as often!
I stated that I hoped that they were having their little discussions on their own time. If they are as busy and as overworked as they and their Union suggest that they are, then they probably shouldn’t be using work time to discuss how hungry they are for a change in the ruling government!
Public sector workers work for the public! That’s you and me P Val! Public sector wages and benefits far exceed those in the private sector. We are paying a lot for the services of our public sector. It’s fair and reasonable to expect that they do the public’s work while on the public’s dime, especially if they are as over-worked as they and their Unions suggest!
Hahaha….Pullopud, you’re a hoot !
Palopu you don’t make my rules . I make my rules . I will not be using msm light and msm medium for the duration of the election . That’s where the cons are concentrating their pr value . So I won’t interrupt your viewing . And the other advertisers will also not have my eyes . Can you imagine if the msm advertisers realized that they were in danger of losing 61 % of their veiwers by shoving Stevie in our faces . I’m sure 61 % is a conservative ( Pun intended ) number .
I for one can’t wait for another conservative term of government. I can’t think of one thing the other parties can offer me, except of course tighter gun control because we all know criminals really respond to that.
And higher taxes. Of course, that’s just for the “wealthiest” amongst us. And “corporations”. Good luck in taxing the ‘wealthiest’, Justin. Once you’re wealthy enough to have acquired everything you need and desire, you really don’t need a very high income. But then being one of them, you’d already know that. So it’ll be all those who are hard-working and ambitious and trying to get a leg up on the income ladder on their own that you’ll really be taxing. And the same to you, Tom, when you finally figure out that “corporations” can only ‘get’ their money from the public. So who are you really taxing?
Hey, we could always hold the federal vote for the Central Interior next week, then we wouldn’t have to bother with the rest of the crap being spewed at us through all the media.
Simple vote! LMAO
Socredible, children who are born into families which have accumulated wealth are having an unfair advantage? So, by your logic they ought to be prohibited from accepting the legacy left to them by their hard working parents? Leave Justin Trudeau alone! He had the good fortune to be born into very good circumstances, he says so! He wants to improve the opportunities for others with his approach to help the middle class by taxing the highest income earners more! That is a good start to narrow the gap! Your logic does not add up!
Just in case it does not stand out sufficiently enough: Trudeau said that he would tax the 1% (the highest income earners, i.e. the wealthiest!) top earners, NOT the middle class! I have not heard from either Mulcair or Harper that THET are in favour of having the highest income earners paying more taxes because they can easily afford to!
The first casualty in wars and election campaigns appears to be the TRUTH!
Prince George, I’m not knocking Justin Trudeau’s good fortune to be born into wealth at all. Simply stating that people who are ALREADY wealthy, like he is, do not need a high income. They already have everything they need. So what is he going to tax when he talks about taxing the ‘wealthiest’? There’s no suggestion from him that he’s going to tax their ‘capital’ ~ an assessed value of the wealth they already possess. And taxing their ‘incomes’ is not going to be very likely to bring in the amount of money he’s going to need to fulfill his election promises, when such people (including himself) can always arrange their affairs to have little in the way of taxable income. So when he talks about taxing the “wealthiest” , that’s really double-speak for higher taxes on those who are trying to get their ‘incomes’ up to where they can acquire the things which are considered to be ‘wealth’.
Your argument – “that’s really double-speak for higher taxes on those who are trying to get their ‘incomes’ up to where they can acquire the things which are considered to be ‘wealth” – is flawed! You want people to be wealthy or not? If they are NOT forced to pay higher taxes (and Trudeau has no plans to tax them higher!) they will eventually turn into the class which has so much wealth (so you say) that they can easily find ways to keep as much of their higher earnings (so you say) as they wish!
Even if they are charged more taxes they will always find ways (so you say) to avoid paying them! If they already have all the need (as you say) they can easily afford to share some of it with the less wealthy! Nobody is asking them to live under a bridge or in a back alley!
The system we live in does not make it illegal to legally accumulate wealth! Do not forget that. The goverment can set tax rates and modify them. The outcome is somewhat predictable as it has worked in the past.
I do not see any double talk at all.
