BCNE “in the Black”
Prince George, B.C. – This year’s BCNE was successful where it matters most this year – the bottom line.
“Once all the bills are paid, I’ll know how much but I’m confident we got into the black this year,” says CEO Alex Huber. “We’re out of the red and we can move forward. We can start planning things and acquiring things the fair needs.”
All of this after some “challenges” in recent years.
“There were some challenges in the previous years with some events, especially in 2012 because it was such a large show. It was in the red yes.”
But following a solid year this year (see previous story) it’s full steam ahead.
“It was an amazing year, people came out in droves. The parking lots were full, the vendors were happy, barns were full of animals and the rodeo was a smashing success.”
Huber says the rodeo was so successful they’ll likely expand it.
“I think we’re going to add an extra day next year (to three days). We didn’t have room for everyone to compete,” he says. “We had way too many entries, some had to ride Sunday morning before the gates even opened.”
Huber says he’d also like to keep the fair a five day event.
“I would like to keep it a five day fair. That free sneak peek Wednesday worked so well. It allowed people to come in and have a look around.”

I thought ‘what would have mattered most’ is nobody was hurt, or killed. Guess the BCNE has a different look on what makes an event successful.
I think the free sneak peek day and free parking were the main reason we spent any money there this year. It was a great choice to make this event more accessable, if im going to spend 30$ at the fair total, id rather not spend most of it on parking and admission. It left more room in the budget for treats and games :)
Took my grandkids to the Culinary Challenge this year. We absolutely loved it, my little granddaughter has now postponed her ambitions on becoming a kitten doctor and is now preparing for culinary school. And yes, I’ve happily eaten my weight in P&J sandwiches since then! We also took in some of the rodeo which was fantastic, great to hear they will be expanding it next year. Well done to all the organizers!
Pg101 brings happiness once again.. What a miserable life you must have, needing to find the negative in everything.. You hit me as the kind of person who would win the $50,000,000 in the lottery then b/tch and moan about having to drive to Kamloops to pick up the cheque.
To all the coordinators, staff, volunteers thanks for a great event, good luck for next year.
We had a GREAT time at the fair this year! We thought that the midway was well laid out, the food court was better and larger, the exhibitions were great and the wine tasting was a nice addition!
Oh, and we really enjoyed the rodeo!
So far, it was the best BCNE that we have attended! Thanks to all that put in the hours to make this a success! See you next year!
