Prince George, B.C. – A memorial motorcycle ride in memory of fallen reservist Private Kirby Tott has not only helped a family through its grieving process, but also brought the entire community together.

“It’s nice to see how the community is stepping together,” says Kirby’s sister Delaney. “We’re kind of shocked by it. People are coming up to us in public so it’s nice to hear from everyone who we haven’t heard from before.”

She adds it’s helped her family as well. “I find it has yes. For my dad it has too because he’s a very quiet man but now he’s very open about everything and my mom is loving the attention from all her friends and family.”

Tott says proceeds from today’s ride, which departed Prince George this morning and wraps up with a dinner at The Cowboy Ranch tonight, will go towards the Poppy Fund.

“There are patches being sold (at Harley Davidson in Prince George) for $10 each. They say Kirby Tott on them,” says Delaney. “We’re going to give the proceeds to the Poppy Fund. They helped us with his (Kirby’s) plaque for the burial.”

She adds the family will also be making memorial bracelets with the proceeds going to the Poppy Fund at the SPCA.

Tott died in a training accident last month while carrying out specialty training at Canadian Forces Base Shilo in Manitoba.

It’s nice to see a show of support for the memory of Pte. Tott, both from a community perspective, and respect for his service as a reservist.
Donating proceeds to the Poppy Fund adds a touch of class, in my opinion.
