Williams Lake, B.C. – Fire crews are battling a new wildfire near Williams Lake.

Information officer Emily Epp with the Cariboo Fire Centre says it was discovered today and is located about 10 km west of the rural community of Big Creek which is about 90 km southwest of Williams Lake.

“Currently the fire is estimated at about 9 hectares in size and smoke is probably highly visible from nearby areas,” she says. “We have airtankers, air support and firefighters on scene with more additional resources being sent out at this time.”

Epp says the cause is under investigation. “We haven’t established the cause yet and we’re currently sending fire investigators to look into that for us.”

There are no reported injuries and she says no structures are currently at risk.
