All Candidates Meeting Set

Thursday, August 27, 2015 @ 3:59 AM

Prince George, B.C.- Two all candidate meetings have been arranged  by the Stand Up for the North Committee and the format will be a little different than what has been  seen in the past.

The sessions  are being  structured so candidates and voters have an  opportunity to express their views, exchange opinions and have  discussion on  specific topics.

While both  sessions are to take place at CNC,   the first will be on September 16th and  will  focus on the topic  “What are the key economic issues facing Canadians and what should be the direction of the economy?”

The second session is set for October 7th, and will focus  on “Anti-terror Bill C-51 and the rights of Canadians”.

Candidates from  the Cariboo-Prince George riding,  and the Prince George-Peace River -Northern Rockies riding have been invited to attend.

The events have been set up so each candidate will have 3 minutes to address the specific topic, after that,  members of the audience can  make their own  3 minute presentation, or ask candidates  questions.

Stand Up for the North Committee member Peter Ewart,  says  the format has been developed  so  voters  can  be more engaged “Voter-centred all-candidates meetings, will provide an opportunity for more dialogue between audience and candidates, as well as among audience members. The aim is to create a public forum for open airing of opinion, as well as a greater involvement of voters in discussion on election issues.”

On both the 16th of September and the 7th of October,  the session will  run from 7-9 pm  in room 1-306 at  CNC in Prince George.

Tory candidates told to avoid debates, media during campaign

Everyone is talking about this campaign except, it seems, Conservative candidates.

My lonely cross-country sojourn in search of a chatty Conservative: Tim Harper

Went to the mayoral debate put on by CBC at the library. Worst debate format I have ever seen. The CBC moderator, who loved the sound of his own voice, rambled on and on and on leaving very little time for questions. Then there was a break because asking 3 questions must have been exhausting. Maybe Doherty hasn’t replied because he is busy travelling throughout the riding doing what he should be doing meeting and talking to people. Noticed on his Facebook page how much time he has spent meeting groups of people in every community. However, heard he has a campaign office so will check to see if the party has him hog tied to his desk and will also ask him if he is afraid of libraries. Do I ever miss Ben’s reporting. He would be giving us more than this tepid reporting.

Conservative candidates have been directed not to attend debates or speak with members of the media. Harper is so power hungry he controls each one of them.

Are the CPC candidates going to attend? Apparently they’re all on very short leashes and are being told to avoid public debates.

How can people vote for a candidate that is not allowed to speak in public till after an election.

Mr Harper let your kids join the grown up table. They are supposed to represent us not you.

Yes I know he’s out knocking on doors and talking with voters one on one. I’m sure all the candidates are doing that. But they are all taking the time to attend public debates and speak to the press.

Can’t trust Harper

Peter Ewart…. the “Stand up for the North” committee will be nothing but an NDP bitch session loaded with historical “rent a crowd” screamers the dippers are so famous for.

Why the hell could Doherty OR Zimmer want to attend that “forum” when they can engage in election activities that are far more beneficial, such as meeting voters one on one, in malls, in big box stores, on the street etc. etc.

Good on you Doherty…don’t let the people of the orange kool aid suck you into their lair.

Shouldn’t they speak to everyone in the riding, not just there supporters are possible voters. The person elected in this riding is their to represent all of us. How can that be accomplished when they hide from public forums.

That is why I will vote for the strongest candidate in our riding. And any one that is not allowed to speak cause daddy says so is not on that list

Maybe these debates would be more meaningful if they were arranged by a non-partisan group. Who in their right mind would sign up to listen to Ewart and his ilk spouting their left wing rhetoric?

Dave hiding where, you got facts about that?

“engage in election activities that are far more beneficial, such as meeting voters one on one, in malls, in big box stores, on the street etc. etc.

What part of that did you not understand?

Seamutt, here are some facts for you,

On Friday March 25, 2011 the Canadian House of Commons found Prime Minister Stephen Harper guilty of contempt of Parliament.

Turned a 13 billion dollar surplus into the biggest deficit in Canadian history

Harper and his buddy Clement had lifted $50-million from the public purse – money originally allotted by parliament for alleviating congestion at Canada’s borders – and spent it in his Parry Sound-Muskoka riding on things like parks, walkways, toilets and gazebos. He would later claim the money was dispersed for the G8 Summit

‘Um it, it isn’t really high on our radar, to be honest … Harper’s coment on a public inquiry into missing aboriginal women

The list goes on and on

His only goal is to be re-elected he surrounds him self with his rich buddy’s and could careless about Canada and the people that live here.

Time for change

Can’t trust harper

Tory candidates told to avoid debates, media during campaign

What qualifies Todd to sit in parliament?

If the candidates are wanting the vote then stand up and say why you deserve it.. Don’t hide.. If you are to scared to be in a debate then you may want to reasses what your party stands for..

A candidate that won’t defend his views or those of his party to the very people he wants to elect him is unworthy of a seat in the House of Commons.

A bit more from the Toronto star article on Wednesday.

Conservatives running in the federal election have been advised not to attend all-candidates’ meetings or speak to reporters during the campaign, a party source says.
A Conservative insider said Wednesday that most of Stephen Harper’s flag-bearers have “been told no debates and no media.”
The informal edict appears to affect Tory candidates across the country, which explains why so many press interviews are being rebuffed.

It is the tactic of an organization which is running scared.

Now we wait to see what the negative ad campaign from the Conservatives will look like.

A possible positive ad campaign they could go with is we listen to the people. We are willing to speak to people one on one at your front door, over a coffee, on the phone.

Starting to sound like a City Councilour I heard about. ;-)

Be darned if I’ll vote for anyone who doesn’t have the nerve to speak up for the people in his/her riding! Talk about towing the party line. It’s sickening!

I seen on the news the other night that Harper is charging reporters $70,000 for the privilege to travel with his campaign team and be granted access to their party rallies.

If you have a hidden agenda then that is one way of weeding out any dissenting opinions that might challenge the conservative party line. I think it shows a lack of respect for democracy and responsible government.

Once elected it should be the Canadian government that governs for all, and not the Harper government.

Dave. The Supreme Court of Canada says that Ottawa illegally collected employment insurance contributions for three years under the former Liberal Government. In a 7.0 decision, the court ruled EI premiums were inappropriately collected between 2002, 2003, and 2005. That’s when the Liberal Cabinet set EI rates directly without the authorization from Parliament and the employment insurance commission, a violation of the principle of no taxation without representation.

**This means that employment insurance premiums were collected unlawfully, without the necessary legislative authorization** Justice Louis LeBel wrote in the decision.

So Dave that means that the Liberal Government collected some $54 billion dollars illegally and used the money to pay down the debt. So their so called good fiscal management in reducing the debt, was in fact the consequence of an illegal act.

So lets not give them to much credit for being very smart. You can thank the Liberal Paul (Mr Dithers) Martin for this fiasco.

Have a nice day.

In Asia they have a saying:

‘If you build an army of a 100 lions and their leader is a dog, in any fight, the loins will die like a dog.

If you build an army of 100 dogs and their leader is a lion, all dogs will fight like a lion.’

Meaning if you have a leader that has integrity and respects the dignity of those whom he governs, then even if he is leading dogs they will govern under the lead of their leader.

But if you have a leader that is evasive, won’t answer questions, and gets embroiled in associations with corrupted individuals (ie privileged appointments), then it is guaranteed to have the whole pack emulating the leader and bad governance will follow.

In party politics there is a platform, and an agenda. The platform is the list of things that they claim they will “attempt to do” (if elected to power). While the agenda is what they will bend the rules to do if elected.
I am neither Con, Lib or NDP. I refuse to buy into the “platform politics” as they have been proven to be BS. My own personal agenda is what I base my voting upon.
In stating that, my vote will go to the candidate which will push for the following:

-Serious reformation of the welfare and ei programs.
-Abolishment of the long outdate “Indian Act”.
-Reformation of the political pension plan.
-True reduction of our countries debt load.

In order to make my choice, I need to know of my local candidate’s beliefs and intentions (sift through the BS). IF a candidate does not make appearances at forums, (or speak to me directly) then I am forced to either vote on gut instinct or vote “non of the above” and spoil my ballot.

The Conservatives are not going to buy my vote because of child tax credits or Harper’s own dictator style leadership. At this point nobody has my vote yet. If I voted based on past performance of ANY party, I would be hard pressed to make a choice that would satisfy my own personal agenda.

Eagleone. Old Chinese Proverb. If you have a strong leader you will have no weak soldiers.

When a Master governs, the people
are hardly aware that he exists.
Next best is the leader who is loved.
Next, one who is feared.
The worst is one who is despised.

(Old Chinese saying of Lao Tsu).

Any opportunity for the people to gain information is positive if the cons see it as a horrible event just demonstrates their view and contract crap. Understanding you cant attend all events but to run and hide is an example of a government on the run from the people which means your done. Off to the corner to think about just how distant you have become.

**It takes little effort to watch a man carry a load** Chinese proverb.

This is quite simple if you want my vote show up at a debate,if you cant show up to a debate, you most likely wont show up to represent my vote in the house. And I will use my vote accordingly

Old Canadian proverb . In the new Conservative party of canada , there’s not enough guts to make a package of wieners .
