Ft St James Mounties Go Above And Beyond
Ft St James, B.C. – Members of the Fort St James RCMP threw their efforts into tackling one of the most serious afflictions affecting society: cancer.
They took part in a Cops for Cancer Tour De North fundraiser which featured a Greek dinner, silent auction and a lot of hair hitting the deck. Several officers had their heads shaved for the cause including Constable Abbey Thacker and Constable Carlie McCann. She’s been growing her hair since 2013 but had it lopped off to be made into wigs.
Not to be outdone, three male officers had their legs waxed for $5 per strip.
But that paled in comparison to the contribution of Constable Lee Best, who might be seen by some as brave, by others as perhaps a touch masochistic. He tossed his shirt to the wind and offered up his chest hair, to be taken off by the strip.
When the last hair was history he had pulled in $300, bringing the total raised to $5500 for the night.
“I won’t lie, it was unpleasant at first, then the numbness set in, and the donations flowed”, said Lee. “I can’t think of a more worthy cause, and I’m assured it will grow back in time for next year!”
The police are sending their thanks to the community for supporting and helping with the fundraiser. Constable Andres Sanchez will be riding in the Cops for Cancer Tour De North this year, representing the Fort St. James RCMP.

Sure is nice to see community involvement and some sacrifice by members of our national police force. Thank you lady and gentlemen for your hair and service.
