Amazing Race Ready to Roll
Prince George, B.C. – The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is leading up to its major fundraising event of the year, the CIBC Run for the Cure in October, by holding several other events which raise the public profile of the cause.
Paint Canada Pink Week happened August 17 – 23 and was the 50 day kick-off to the annual 1km or 5km walk/run which takes place on Sunday, October 4th. The local organizing committee hosted the 2nd Annual Store Front Challenge in which 11 city stores had their windows decorated in creative pink masterpieces. The effort raised over $765 for the battle against breast cancer an, as the saying goes, every penny helps.
More money will be raised with tomorrow’s 2nd Annual CIBC Run for the Cure Amazing Race – Race for a Cure. Teams of 4 will be racing around Prince George starting from City Hall at 11 am. Teams are encouraged to dress up in pink costumes.
Prince George Run Director Melissa Veregin says the race “takes them all around town. We can’t disclose the legs of the race because it’s a surprise for the participants, but we have seven local businesses involved. And then at the Pit Stop, at the very last leg of the race, we have a barbecue that is sponsored by Mr. Mike’s Steakhouse Casual.”
Veregin says “we still have spots available. We have one or two teams that are kind of on the fence right now and we are still looking for more teams.” She says teams interested in taking part can email her at mveregin@cbcfrun.org to register.
There will be a small entry fee and prizes to be won.
