Fifth and Foothills Accident Sends Three To Hospital
Prince George, B.C. – Three people have been taken to hospital for observation following a collision involving two vehicles shortly before 4pm at Fifth Avenue and Foothills Boulevard.
According to an eyewitness, a car containing four people was travelling north on Foothills when a second car, stopped at 5th, pulled out into the intersection in an attempt to make a left turn and head south on Foothills.
The eyewitness says the male driver of the northbound car attempted to pull around the rear end of the other car, which was already in the intersection, in an attempt to avoid a collision. The witness says the northbound car then slid on the road surface, hit the cement base of the wide median, became airborne, took out the Hydro guy-wire, spun around while in the air and landed in the inside southbound lane.
The heavily-damaged car contained the man who was driving, his wife who is pregnant, and a child. They all went to UHNBC to be checked. The nature and extent of injuries is not known. The male and female in the other car were not hurt.
Police are investigating the accident.

So that’s why our power went out. BC Hydro probably had to shut it down to make the repairs. As I said earlier today, good thing it’s summer :).
Hope everyone in the accident is OK, and that speeding wasn’t a factor.
This is the second Accident in two days. We used to see radar all the time on foothills. We dont any more. We live very close to foothills and the amount of tires squeling and vehicles speeding has got a lot worse in the last 3 years. Where are the cops with radar.
Maybe it’s the distracting, and stupid, election signs everywhere?
Foothills is like the Indy 500 most days
Bring back the radar van.
How fast does one need to be traveling in order to get air borne?
Sounds to me like one idiot pulled out of 5th when it wasn’t clear and another idiot was traveling to fast to avoid the collision.
Next!
Apparently there was an eyewitness, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to find out who did what to whom. Split seconds make a difference! Since the cops do not enforce any posted speed limits everybody has gotten used to going at least ten clicks over what is posted on the signs. So “too fast” is open to individual interpretation. Adhering to actual posted limits often turns one into a traffic obstacle and the predictable tailgating. How many drivers actually know that the standard speed limit within the City is 50km/h unless posted otherwise? What is the solution, if there is one?
I agree with itelman. Bring back photo radar. The only ones that wanted it band were the speeders, and those who are worried about someone else was driving their vehicle. To bad don’t lend out your vehicle.
What is the solution, if there is one?

Driver education, not revenue generating speed enforcement is the solution. In this example, the dude driving on Foothills may have avoided the collision if he had been driven defensively and had expected the guy coming off 5th to jump out in front of him.
Cement barriers here we come!
Defensive driving courses should be brought back. Maybe the guy going down the Foothills like axman said should have expected the impatient jackass to pull out in front of him but then again why couldn’t the impatient jackass wait an extra 10 seconds and say to himself “is a 10 seconds wait to long to wait from killing myself or others??” Now their both out of a vehicle, so did he, jackass get where he was going?? Neither one did. Again no common-sense – everyone with the me me me attitude!
“Keep right except to pass”. And look at the free adds that harperman got.
Cheers
To the TROLL…go and TROLL in your own back yard…there is enough idiocy going on there that we really don’t need your STUPID mostly sarcastic comments here!
As for the accident itself, I really can’t understand the thinking or lack thereof of the drivers as they approach Foothills, it seems that they are blind to the fact that they are approaching a 4 lane arterial road, with heavy traffic at faster than city speeds! I travel this route twice a day, and at least weekly I will see someone either leave early or without looking and almost get hit, or not even bother stopping on a right turn. Invariably someone almost get hit.
More that once I’ve seen drivers come close to hitting other cars, curbs, etc while they try to avoid the idiot that jumped the stop sign.
Perhaps a flashing red light would help drive the point home…or park a police car there for a few days and write up every driver that either fails to yield right of way properly or rolls through the stop! Maybe then the message would sink in.
