Around 5:45 last evening,  Prince George RCMP, North District RCMP Traffic Services, the BC Ambulance Service and the Buckhorn Volunteer Fire Department responded to a collision along Highway 97 between Buckhorn Lake Road and the Willowcale Forest Service Road.

Police say it appears  a  Freightliner utility truck travelling south bound collided with an empty flat-deck tractor-trailer that was stopped on the highway as directed by construction flaggers. The Freightliner caught on fire as a result of the collision. The 41 year old Prince George driver was removed from the vehicle and transported by BC Ambulance to the University Hospital of Northern BC, where he was treated and later released.

Due to the collision scene and danger to the public, this section of Highway 97 was closed for several hours. A detour was available.

Investigators are looking at speed and alcohol as possible contributing factors. Anyone who may have information on this collision is asked to contact  North District RCMP at (250)561-3100 and ask to speak to Traffic Services.
