Prince George, B.C. – Prince George Fire Rescue (PGFR) responded to a house fire in Blackburn last night.

15 firefighters from three halls responded to the blaze in the 1400 block of Blackburn Road at around 5:30.

They arrived to find heavy thick black smoke coming from the eaves of the structure along with flames starting to rise above the roof line in the rear of the house.

Luckily the one occupant home at the time of the fire was able to make a safe escape.

It took crews about two and a half hours to douse the blaze.

PGFR estimate the damages at $300,000 and say the fire was caused from cooking on the stove top.

Busy times for pgfr…
After yesterdays ruiling of not guilty to that firefighter accused of having and selling stolen goods you would think that the city might be under a wrongful termination suit especially since the other firefighter convicted of theft over 5000 got to keep his job since the conviction…
Looks like the citys HR might be having some explaining to do.

Most Fires do start in the Kitchen, not like the Insurance Industry tells you ,your Woodstove .

However, I have actually seen woodstoves installed in kitchens.

This house looks like a log house. If so, I believe it was built in the early 50’s by Alf Burton. I remember staying there and watching a couple of black bears wondering around. What a shame if it is “The Burton” house, it will be hard to repair if it’s repairable.
