Cougars Beat Blazers in Final Exhibition Game
Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Cougars finished off the pre-season on a winning note, beating the visiting Kamloops Blazers 6-5 before 3,108 fans at CN Centre Saturday night.
Rookies Brogan O’Brien and Justin Almeida led the way for the Cats picking up a pair of goals each en route to the victory.
Both Collin Shirley (2 goals and 1 assist) and Jesse Zaharichuk (1 goal 2 assists) had three points each for Kamloops who actually led the game 2-1 after the first period.
However Prince George exploded for three goals in the second period before hanging on in the third for the win.
Kolby Johnson and Jared Bethune had the other Cougar goals.
The victory gave the Cats a final pre-season record of 3 wins, 2 losses and one shootout loss.
Kamloops meanwhile finished up exhibition play with 2 wins and 3 losses.
Prince George kicks off the regular season when they host the Everett Silvertips Friday night at 7pm.
*Fans were also treated to five additional minutes of three-on-three hockey once the final horn sounded.
Both teams scored a goal though neither actually counted. The format gave both teams one last chance to test and understand the new format in advance of the 2015-16 WHL regular season.
