Prince George, B.C. – City crews have started the work that will widen North Nechako Road between Rosia and Toombs to allow for the installation of bike lanes. The work, which is expected to take about a week, will see crews pulverizing sections of the roadway before it is paved.
North Nechako Road will also be widened from 7.5 metres to 10.2 metres to allow for bike lanes.
The line painting will take place a few days after paving has finished.
All of the work is weather dependent.

This should read from Rosia to Foothills – Rosia to Toombs was completed last year
The way people drive down that road I wouldn’t chance riding a bike down there.
Has there been any kind of bike survey to see how well its used ? Or are we wasting money on something never to be used ?
Glad to see completion of this leg of the project. I ride my bike on North Nechako road quite often and having the shoulders paved has been a huge improvement. Good work by the residents for more than 20 years of patiently requesting the city provide this type of transit corridor and finally getting their wishes. It is safer now and much more enjoyable.
It is well used by bicycles, pedestrians and dog walkers. I also believe that the road surface will be more durable. Vehicles seldom drive on the margin between the pavement and the gravel now, so it isn’t breaking up on the edges like Otway road is starting to do, only a few years after it was paved.
Next project: A bike lane alongside Otway Road (separate from the roadway) starting from Ospika to at least the Otway Ski Centre. Make it wide enough for those that really need to bike side by side (off the main road). This is a very highly used route for many bicyclers, particularly for those in training for bicycle events.
Just imagine, this trail could also be used by cc skiers during the winter snow months.
I agree muffs… That’s a great idea for Otway. It’s kind of sad when Mackenzie with only 3500 residents has more paved off street bike trails than PG does.
