PG School Board to Elect New Vice-Chair Tonight

Tuesday, September 29, 2015 @ 3:50 AM

Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George School Board will elect a new vice-chairperson tonight at its monthly board meeting.

The special election was made necessary after current vice-chair Brenda Hooker announced she would be relinquishing her role after accepting a new job with School District 60 in Fort St. John this summer.20140922_142547

She told 250 News earlier this month that while she plans to continue on as a trustee in Prince George, the move up North would likely impact her ability to perform the job.

“There is going to be a certain impact, particularly in the vice-chair role,” said Hooker. “It’s to support the chair and to be available when the chair is not available so obviously it’s going to be difficult for me as vice-chair to be available when I’m in Fort St. John.”

Hooker’s decision to accept the new position has the unqualified support of her colleagues.

“She definitely has the blessing of the board as far as finding a new job and we’re very thrilled for her and it’s a very good career opportunity,” said board chair Tony Cable on September 4.

Tonight’s meeting is the first of the 2015-16 school year. It starts at 7pm.
