Northwest First Nations Study Clean Energy Options

Thursday, October 1, 2015 @ 3:53 AM

Prince George, BC – Two First Nations in northwestern BC have received funding from the provincial government to begin feasibility studies into clean energy opportunities in their communities.

Under BC’s First Nations Clean Energy Business Fund, Kitsumkalum First Nation, near Terrace, has received $40-thousand dollars to examine the feasibility of a developing a 15-megawatt wood-burning biomass electrical plant on its reserve lands.

The Wet’suwet’en First Nation, near Burns Lake, will use a $30-thousand dollar grant to develop a new community energy plan on its traditional territory.  The Wet’suwet’en have identified clean energy as a strategic priority – the study will determine if clean energy opportunities can be tapped as sources of revenue, job generators, and viable options for more sustainable energy use.

Wet’suwet’en First Nation Chief, Karen Ogen, says “WFN is committed to ensuring we balance our environmental concerns with any future energy projects we might pursue in our traditional territory.”

“This funding will help us explore some of the clean energy options that might be available.”

Hydro will be forced to buy this expensive energy at a rate higher than what Hydro can generate energy for. Notice costs are never mentioned on these missnamed green projects.

No need to reinvent the wheel . Solshare.ca

Ataloss how come you never state details about your solar system. Oh wait…

More money to “study”!

$40-thousand dollars to examine the feasibility of developing a 15-megawatt wood-burning biomass electrical plant!

$30-thousand dollar grant to develop a new community energy plan!

That’s just another $70-thousand dollars!

Seems like we probably spend more on studies, feasibility plans and development plans than we actually spend on actually getting things done!

Gotta love paying taxes!

Ataloss how come you never state details about your solar system. Oh wait . Mutt , what makes you think my investment strategies and ownership are any of your business . And what makes you think that you can bully the details of my life out of me . Do you have any success at bullying ? I could not care any less about what you do or don’t do . I should be as insignificance to you as you are to me . So what your problem . Get your own business . That way you won’t have to mind other people’s businesses for them .

Yes 70 k for study’s . Money well spent . The First Nations are leading the way on a few fronts . They have the perfect governance for escaping the big hydro vice that we are all in and getting squeezed by . They could easily start their own micro grids and cut big utilities off and there would be nothing the big hydro utilities could do about it . Good on them . They give the rest of us hope .

Atoloss, I flicked on the light switch this morning and the lights came on! I didn’t feel any squeeze whatsoever!
